Stanley bandwagon is deboarding, watch your step as you leave

Missed three touchdown passes and not a bad mistake? A demoralizing win.
He missed 3 lower percentage throws.
We didn't see the same little mental hiccups that he had against Wyoming and we didn't see any turnovers.
It is improvement.

Demoralizing for the defense not for Stanley. The guy just put up numbers in his second start that CJ never came close to. CJ never threw for even 300 yards or 4 TDs. We all bitched about 8 completions against Wyoming, this was a nice change.

Somebody said it in another thread... yes Stanley missed on a couple deep shots but there's definetly a silver lining...

We are actually taking shots downfield and there was separation.

More opportunities to come...

He's not a quitter or a bad kid . . . but he reminds me of Ruduck (timid game manager) more than CJB . . . and Iowa's offense needs a CJB-type to flourish.

Still, I don't put everything on him. Lots of blame to go around.

The guy passed for 300+ yds, 5 TD's and no INT's, at a rivalry on the road. What more do you want. I'm pretty sure CJ didn't have 300+ yds and 5 TD's in his career, let alone 2nd start. Man, some people and their expectations!!! Insert roll eyes here. o_O

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that people are going to bitch just to bitch every week/game. I'm not living my life like that. I'm done questioning coaches, etc.. I'm just going to enjoy the team each year like I did in my youth.

Only the misguided pessimist types would wine about Stanley's performance today. Great 2nd game in a tough position, and Iowa State will beat some decent teams this year, I've no doubt.

Great job Nate!

I actually had to login and post here just to say this topic is a joke right? Stanley hasn't been perfect but he did improve and that kid has showed he has the potential to be something special....for goodness sake he's on pace to throw 48 TD's....(I know that won't happen but still...) To give you some context Chuck Long has the record at 27 for a single season...Stanley has 8 in his first two collegiate starts...

Heck let's say just for kicks...if he kept up this pace and finished with 48 TD's...He would be 4th in Iowa's career Passing TD list...with two full seasons left...

Now I know there will be bumps on the road this year...but...wow...he's making some throws that I haven't seen an Iowa QB make in a long, long time. The two Smith-Marsette TD's as well as Vandy's...those were perfect...As a Bears fan...I'm used to seeing those from guys like Rodgers and stuff twice a year.

Stanley impressed me today. Missed a few deep balls but never looked scared and didn't make any bad mistakes. Great win. That would be a demoralizing loss for those Clowns though wow.

Stanley made some really excellent decisions. He missed quite a few deep throws, but they were the right read. I recall one time when we were inside our 15 on 1st down Iowa actually called a deep route. Stanley dropped back, waited for the WR to get open, he even cocked his arm to throw, but WR didn't come open. He checked down to his outlet guy and threw a bullet for a 3 or 4 yard gain. he didn't risk a pick inside our 50 and picked up a reasonable gain. This kid is going to be very good. It looks like it comes easy to him.

Exactly, He's just so impressive to watch...I know it won't be sunshine and rainbows all the time...but wow, he has "it".
CJB & Stanzi & All of them were great...but I don't ever recall them seeming to make those type of decisions so easily.

Heck I re-watched Wyoming game...I think it was the Easley TD...he was totally scanning left side of field, doesn't find his targets and boom rotates and hits easley on the other half. He's not perfect but I really believe in my limited football knowledge, he's making some impressive "football" decisions back there.

Peyton Manziel is better . . . just sayin

Yup. Not like last year when we would have to wait 3.5 games to take another shot

Edit: just saw your reply -- sorry for the in short, uh, shortness?

The last Hawkeye QB to have a game like today was Chuck Hartlieb. It's top three best Big Ten performance in a road game in two decades, according to the Sound Off stats guys.

In short, if you are disappointed in today's Stanley, you basically are expecting video game numbers from your qb in games where you quit and start over every time you turn the ball over.

Am I the only one who thought on the second long miss to Fant that Fant turned and looked too early and slowed down because of it? I also would have been a little happier had Fant laid out for it.

That being said Fant had a heck of a game and just continues to get better the more he plays. He is the one I am worried will leave after next season.

Yeah, I thought he pulled up a step short there too.
