So, what happened today RE: new tailgating rules enforcement?

I was one of the culprits to start a thread on this last week, but I would say it was LIGHTYEARS better today. No problems for us at all tailgating or getting in the stadium.

The only unpleasant part of today was the woman who threw up behind me...she got my pom pon...dammit.

what??

Myrtle was the same crazy lot I remember last year.. Cops were super cool today, even stood by and watched this guy do a beer bong out of a "dong bong" penis shape on the end lol and they laughed at him. lol

I was there too, and it was pretty nuts. My friends told me before I got there that some ISU fan was standing on top of a car taunting hawk fans, only to have beers pelted at him. The cops were in the lot at the time & just laughed.

I walked the full length of melrose to get to myrtle and back to the stadium & didn't even see a single cop. So my diet coke/couzee was a waste of time. Time to move on.

I didn't see any coolers being searched or anyone being "questioned/harassed" by police. I didn't see anyone receiving a ticket.

Also, I didn't see anyone acting inappropriately. I'm sure there were a few, but I didn't see it.

HUGE improvement in atmosphere over last week. I was very impressed. The enforcement personnel must have gotten the message and focused exclusively on the "knuckleheads".

THANK YOU U of I for listening to the concerns and complaints of your tailgating fans!

A few observations...didn't see anyone openly drinking on the walk to Kinnick, and very few drinking at the Krause Family Plaza (though my small group drank there), no sign of any local police but Highway Patrol outside Kinnick before the game.

Also we were able to walk through the Fieldhouse from the Library Lot to Kinnick (someone reported before the season, the FH would be closed for the shortcut).

It did seem like there were more Port-o-Johnnies around today.

It is great to hear that adjustments seemed to be made, on both sides, enforcement and compliance. Hopefully, no one got hurt, and everyone had fun. I think that was everybody's goal to begin with.

I guess the Clone fans' pride got hurt and didn't have the most fun, but that's beside the point. :)

We got forced down into Finkbine Commuter because they were having an early golf tourney and wouldn't let us park in the golf course lot. Only saw the cops ride by a handful of times and never saw any hassling. They even stopped by our tent afterwards because we had the satellite set up and they watched some football with us.

Kudos to Barta,Mason,UI security and ICPD for adjusting, and restoring the ''fun but safe'' to Iowa tailgating.
I always thought they came out overly harsh in Week 1 to set the tone and would back off from there, and obviously they did.
Now, it is up to Iowa fans to conduct themselves with the minimum of decorum and make sure they do not provoke harsher enforcement.
I also think Iowa fans should police themselves a little bit...if someone is clearly out of line or in trouble overindulging, fans should step in and offer assistance.
Also goes for treatment of visiting opponents fans...Iowa fans need to really make an effort to be welcoming and classy...why not? We have the classiest coaching staff and team around, why not match that in our fandom?
Nebraska fans have this reputation of treating visiting fans very well, and applauding the opponent as they exit the field...Iowans can be as classy as Nebraskans, right?

It was night and day. We as fans adjusted our behavior and the university via the police also adjusted their behavior. Didn't tailgate in university lots but walked through Myrtle and while there were police there it was more like they were trying to control the idiots and left those having a wild time but doing nothing wrong alone. I hope this continues for the rest of the year. Tailgating was back to Iowa tailgating. We were not walking on eggshells with the worry we were going to get in trouble for doing something that we have done for years.
