So McCall can Redshirt?

that would be relevant if they had granted him a 5th year. but they granted him a 6th year because he got hurt during last season.

Dude he redshirted his freshman year and got injured in the 3rd game last year which qualifies him for a medical redshirt because you cannot play in more than 30 percent of your teams games. 3 games is the limit and that is why he was granted a 6th year! And his injury was "incapacitating" him from playing the rest of the year, unlike McCall

So could have Lee Gray and yet he was denied.
The NCAA is very inconsistent with medical hardships and you should never expect to get one.

Dace Richardson most likely would have been granted a sixth year because he played as a true freshman. Lee Gray had already red-shirted his true freshman in year in 2001 for "non-medical reason" and the NCAA almost always considers that freshman season an opportunity to compete that should have been used. There are exceptions to this though such as Jon Beutjer who red-shirted his true freshman year and then sat out a year for transferring but was then granted a 6th year.

you are missing the point which is that you must miss TWO YEARS DUE TO INJURY to get a 6th year. up until last year there was no evidence that Keenum sat out as a freshman due to injury.

after keenum got hurt last year, he was also now magically hurt as a true freshman, at least according to houston. the NCAA agreed and now he is playing.

How is Keenums case anywhere similar to McCalls?

I see no simliarties what so ever, so your aruguement with Keenums case means nothing.

I find it hard to believe everyone is so concerned about McCall being able to redshirt. If McCall is as good as everyone thinks he is then he will not apply for an extra year of eligibility. Running backs have a small window of opportunity to collect paychecks as the body can only take so many hits. Really good running backs rarely last 4 years in college, let alone 5.

You're right, at this point there are no similarities - but this post by you:

speculating on why Keenum got a 6th year shows a glaring absence on your part of understanding why it appears so absurd that Keenum was able to get a 6th year. That's what 9yrplan was pointing.

My point was that if keenum got hurt in the 4th or 5th game he probably wouldnt have got a medical redshirt. I never said it was "absurd" where are you getting that from? I was just saying that he had an incapacitating injury that prevented him from playing the rest of the season unlike McCall

its not a mystery to anyone that a freaking clue about college football. the fact that this misinformation is still even being discussed is absurd.

That is why I had to ask. Jon said in his article after the game that McCall appears to be redshirting, since KF is not playing him. IMO That isn't so cut and dry and actually it appears more and more that isn't the case. That the odds are McCall probably won't be able to get the Hardship.

This is not misinformation like you stated, this is actually about how one interprets the information. My eyes see it one way. Furthermore this debate is not absurd.

how do you know that mccall is ready to play? have you talked to his surgeon and PT?

Guys who think he can get a Redshirt....

Do you really think the NCAA will look at the following..

- McCall gets a majority of the carries in game 1 before getting hurt

- Gets hurt and then is medically cleared to play at Minn

- Kirk says before the Mich game that he is good to go

- Kirk says after Mich game that he just needs a push to put him in the game.

- Iowa loses to Mich St big 10 title hopes fall apart

- Iowa sits him to try and get another year out of him (im speculating here)

So after all those factors youre honestly going to tell me that the NCAA will say oh yea sure we will give him another year? Obviously I dont know 100 percent but I have read the bylaws from the rulebook and have looked into other cases where the injury has been "incapacitating" with doctor signatures. McCalls injury is not incapacitating him from playing and he has already played once this season.

So you now think the NCAA gives him another year?

yes, i think it is a 100% chance that he gets a 5th year if he does not play again this year.

No, but when the head coach says that he is ready to play and just needs a kick in the butt to put him in the game I believe he is ready to play.

i see. so coach makes some comments, and hes screwed, but another school concocts a story 5 years after the fact and the NCAA approves it. gotcha.

you dont get it, Keenum had a injury that incapacitated him from playing in senior season. He could not play, was never medically cleared to play, and his coach didnt choose to hold him out even though he could play.

Also do you really think that KF and his staff will lie on the petition form and say that McCall could not play because of injury despite being on record as saying he was medcially cleared and that he could play and has thought about playing him since Minnesota?

It clearly states in the bylaws that you have to have an injury that incapacitates you from playing the rest of the season.
