Y'all do know that "Iowa style" tacos are a thing, right?
I didn't when I lived there. I ate them all the time. We're talking the fluffy flour style.
Kinda like a taco salad in taco form. I ate them all the time. Made my gut ache. But it didn't stop me from eating them. I really don't see them anywhere else. Not in any concentration like I did in IA.
I didn't think it was "a thing" in Iowa...until I moved back to The Lou with my Iowa native wife. Had a new taco place open and when we looked at it....we're like "OMG...looks like the taco's we used to eat in Iowa, we should go." So we go. And of course, the two cars in the back of the building both had Iowa plates. Former Iowans opened it. Still going strong. Has a second location.
Now, I just need someone in town to start serving legit tenderloins.
Taco Johns is terrible. But Potato Ole's are the bomb. I wish we had them just for the old six pack and a pound.
And nobody...I mean NOBODY...tops a Happy Joe's taco. We fortunately had one here in The Lou while I was growing up. It just closed, but a new one opened out west of here.
edit:
I came here to read chatter on Barta, and what am I doing?
Talking tacos.
That's about right for me these days.
On Iowa.
On Iowa tacos!
