I think the more that leave, the easier it is for others to leave

saw you post this on twitter. I agree completely, thought all along Silas Redd was going to open the flood gates. If they see another "leader" leave the team you could see things really pick up.

Never underestimate the importance of geographical proximity when the recruiting race is close.

I would also guess he's hearing more than ever from the PSU staff and perhaps other players now with Redd's departure. Maybe not as much from the UI staff as I could see Ferentz letting the young man decide without being in his ear every day.

Who knows but the young man has been described as being very mature and of high character......... something I would assume we would welcome more of at the RB position based on our recent history.

How many from the incoming class have bailed?

Those are the real head-scratchers for me. They haven't even started their college experience yet, and the soonest they could possibly play in a bowl game or the Big Ten title game is their junior year? Make that senior year, actually, because how can Penn State possibly redshirt anyone in coming years?

Maybe the importance of playing in a title game and bowl games are overemphasized by the fans. Even so, you'd have to wonder how much any of these freshmen will enjoy playing the game the next few years. They'll lose a ton of games, be thrown into game action before their bodies are ready to compete, and take a physical pounding as the depth of the program erodes.

It'll be like playing for Indiana, except nobody will feel sorry for them.

I can't see how the majority of the incoming class stays intact over the next several days.

I think just the 1 CB to Michigan.

EDIT: Of incoming class, like Lynch's class. I think 2 or 3 of the guys that have transferred were from that class.

If you're talking about the '13 class, they've still got a while to explore options.

Just My opinion, but I honestly think their past history and fan base is aiding in keeping the commitments and current players. That said, I think it'll be interesting to see how it affects future recruiting once they begin to struggle and the fans accept the realization of how bad things are going to get and struggle to support their teams.

I agree.. #teamoutlaw euphoria is carrying some of them now, along with peer pressure from the seniors, who really don't have many options if any. Matt McGloin's tweet saying he was staying at Penn State being the prime example.

PSU players can play this year at PSU, and still transfer without penalty of sitting out a year as long as they do so before PSU begins its 2013 fall camp. So if a kid wants to stick around this season he could, then transfer in winter to new school

Jon,

Are you 100% sure on this?

Jon Miller ‏@HawkeyeNation
Just clarified..if a current PSU player wants to transfer and play somewhere else, THIS YEAR, they have to do so before 8/6 when camp begins

I asked Rittenberg on twitter and he said only if they played in a game. Been trying to get a definitive answer but the link you posted doesn't really spell it out clearly.
