Signing Day Thread

A&M has 32 as well.

It depends on a number of things. Number of guys that enrolled at semester, those guys count on last years total, medical hardships (that the SEC really has been taking advantage of), new recruits being told sorry we don't have room for you after signing day and uperclassmen that don't play being told thanks for the last 1,2,3 years but you no longer have a full ride.

The B1G has put itself at a disadvantage in recruiting since the late 1950's by not allowing oversigning on a grand scale. And as of last year when many B1G schools started offering 4-year scholarships instead of 1-year scholarships that have to be renewed. While some believe the 4-year scholarship may help, it won't do much to dent the gap with the SEC. And no matter what it's location, location, location, history, tradition,.......... oh and wins.

Bazata signs letter-of-intent to play at Iowa

From article:

"I think it's just going to take kids who want to work hard," he said. "I think it would be cool to be a part of that — getting back to 10-win seasons."

The continuity on the Iowa staff — five of the Hawkeyes' primary coaches have been with the Hawkeyes for at least 14 years — was also a big draw for Bazata, who had a scholarship offer from South Dakota State and received interest from Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan and Minnesota.

This kid should fit right in. God given talent doesn't matter, we just need to execute better. That's football. The reason Tanner Miller broke his ankles trying to tackle Denard Robinson??? Didn't try hard enough. It is not because we beat out UNI and UNI only for his services.

I love a guy who busts *** more than anyone else (Mitch King, Jared DeVries), but we need to have some talent to work with.

Nathan Bazata is a great pick up too, stole him right out from under the cornhuskers. Just like they did with Drew Ott. Anyone else seeing this guy being a major contributer as a true freshman. He definitely has the size strength and talent.

hmmmmm. Michigan or Iowa. Which one would you choose. Doesn't compare. And it's not like Iowa didn't try to sign them.

Oh I see, so we can't recruit from the Hoosiers because they are a football powerhouse, but Michigan and Oregon can come in our backyard and take whoever the hell they want...

Also, "trying" to sign them. What does Kirk consider "trying"? Moseying up the driveway like he is hung like a field mouse with all that enthusiasm we get from his demeanor, selling the program to the kids and their parent(s). Yeah I'm sure Kirk's sales tactics mirror those of other successful programs. He has the excitement of Bob Ross, and it is reflected on the field and in front of recruits.

Amara Darboh and Adrian Arrington both say hello.

So you are comparing us to Michigan now? We aren't and never will be. We take kids from places like Maryland, too. Like I said, it happens. But we have FAR less recruits to choose from in our state. FAR. Location is still the biggest factor in recruiting.

I like this kid's video a lot. Some real vision, speed, agility, ability to cut. Looks like he'll fit into Davis' short-pass/run system.

We have recruited from the Hoosiers in the past. You are taking one instance - and there are plenty others - and using it as the norm. We have also had Iowa kids who have been recruited by better schools and they chose Iowa. Why? Location.

HawkImalaise makes me want to close the garage and gun the engine. Anything to make the bitter pain of being an Iowa fan stop.

What do you want? SEC-style recruiting?

What's with all the Josey Jewell hate?

He looks like he knows how to tackle. If the guy can execute that skill on an average basis next fall, he'll be part of a very select group on this team.

I remember watching angerer on tv in the state championship game. I was really impressed with his closing speed. He was really really fast out there. He dominated. Don't know much about Josey whales but live the name from the Viking!

Some people are delusional on what they think Iowa football is and should be.

Define Delusional: (your definition) Having below a .500 winning percentage to Iowa St and jNW under this regime and thinking Kirk is a water walker. Combining for more losses when favored by 10 or more than the rest of the conference combined over the last 8 years and thinking it is all execution. Expecting a coach to identify and teach fundamentals like clock management, recognizing fakes and trick plays.
