Shimonek & DW

I think one thing Brian does much better than GD is find match-ups that benefit us. The one thing BF can't do is throw the ball for Nate. Poor kid has missed or left 8 TD's on the field because we can't figure out how far he's throwing the deep ball. The kid is good on short and intermediate routes but the deep ball eludes him for some reason.
But I will take a 12-2 TD to int ratio all day.

He's a smart kid. Better to over-throw than throw an interception. So he errs too long vs too short. Cuz Anal Ferentz freaks out on turnovers (understandable) and that's the one thing that can get a starter onto the bench.

I believe if the talent, be it better, doesn't fit his conservative mold no matter the talent. That person will not be the starter see Shimonek, see Sokol, etc.

Kirk's stubbornness hurts more than it helps IMO (see 18 years of not recognizing the KOK/GD crap show). Now sometimes there just isn't enough starting positions to go around and I can understand that. So if a kid transfers under those circumstances nothing can be done. And certainly KF is not like Lick who chased off his best player after each season. But having DMX; Willies and Shimonek this year might've helped, but that's speculation so no way to prove it. For me it all goes back to the stubbornness thing. We had to lose at Pitt (by 1 point) to prove Stanzi was better. Kirk gets man-crushes on certain players (see Taylor at safety) and it's frustrating to watch better talent picking their nose on the bench. And iirc we didn't recruit a center the entire time James was here??? You can make an argument we played the inferior QB in 2001; 2007; 2012; 2014. That's 4 seasons that should've gone a different way.
My hope is that Brian doesn't get man-crushes on players. I hope his philosophy is "you're just one bad game away from the bench". I've already seen evidence that may be the case. The question is, will he maintain that philosophy when he is head coach?

You guys will never guess who I just saw on the Arizona Rattlers roster on their website which may not have been updated in a while....

Do you believe Shimo was better than CJ, or Rudock, at the time? I think we can argue if CJ should have seen more snaps earlier, but not that Shimo should have been ahead of either of them.

And I may be wrong, but I think Stanley may end up better than all of them. Tough to beat what CJ did in '15 though...dude was the difference in 12-2 And 10-4 or worse.

I don't know. I think OM is a pretty legit talent. I think his RS is so that he can be kept in the same class as their FR qb McCaffrey. He and OM became really good friends at that national elite camp in Oregon last summer. That's when I felt OM was gonna go to UM.
They aren't saving him other than he's just not as good as 2 of the other frosh WRs in his same class. He'll probably get leap frogged in recruiting by other studs. I'll be surprised if he ends up half as good as Darboh was.

CJ and Rudock were easily better than Sokol, and Shimonek. If Nick would have stayed at Iowa he would have probably battled with Weigers and Stanley for the starting spot and probably won it. He didn't stick around, so oh well.

CJ is much older he should be better. CJ is gifted not arguing that not certain he was better than Sokol when he Ruddock and CJ were competing. My point is I think Shimonek didn't leave because he didn't start his Frosh year. I think he left because he NO chance ever being the starter. As far as I can see TT has had MUCH better creds placing QB's in the pros than Iowa has. TE's, OL and DL/DB is where Iowa players turn pro. It's a complete desert if you are a WR, RB or QB perhaps CJ can break that mold.
