Shame on PSU grads

Yeah, shame on those alumni, students, and fans. Hell if this happened at Iowa and only a dozen or so people out of thousands of staff were involved, burn the place to the ground and lynch everyone on payroll. ;)
we arent talking about attending a school to get an efucation to better themselves. we are talking about a group of people who directly donated money to an organization who systematically, and from the highest powers on down, enabled a known pedophile to use his affiliation with the school to abuse children and cover up for it after the fact. think about that, that's exactly what happened
So, burn the school down? Avoid building in the ashes because it would be cursed like an Indian burial ground?

no. dont donate money directly to the department responsible for the cover up.

I am glad they are still donating all that money, they will need it to pay the civil lawsuits that will come out of this. Those people who were victims deserve every dime.

I think people are being too harsh towards the institution. There are thousands of good, honest people who work there that are now being dragged along with this fiasco.

The people responsible for allowing these things to happen have been flushed out. Going forward, Penn State is trying to do what is right. It faces long legal battles and financial responsibilities to victims.

To some people, the only solution would be to burn the entire place to the ground, but that's an emotional response. What about the thousands of people who had nothing to do with it, who do the right thing every day? The horrible actions of a few people should not undo decades of work and dedication by people with integrity. It's not fair to them.

For me, I've tried to structure my feelings toward Penn State by imagining how I would feel if these things happened at Iowa. I would not want to see it totally destroyed, but I would want it to fulfill its obligations to the victims and their families.

You make too much sense! :D

Great post!

Are you serious?

Just because there's been a tremendous scandal doesn't mean current students, who have nothing to do with the cover up, should suffer. A lot of that money went towards creating scholarships, research, and donations for their Dance Marathon. And the guy who donated 100m donated 88m last year. His money is going toward bringing the club hockey team up to varsity. It's not going towards football.

we arent talking about people who donated to the history department. im not banging on people who donate to the schools general scholarship fund. im talking about people who directly gave 200,000,000 to the department responsible for the enablement and cover up. quit trying to distract us with a lame *** "witch hunt" argument

do you really think any of this $$is going to victims? this money is going toward training tables amd weight rooms.

typo 100,000,000.

tm thats a joke right? football at psu is the financial engine for everything. someone who donates to a non revenue sport reduces the burden that sport places on football. that donation might as well have been directly to football. it would have made no difference.

The people of PA and the alumni of PSU are bringing this upon themselves. They hid the bad things that happened and praised Paterno for his football accomplishments, and are still defending him to this day. The reactions of the student body along, alumni, and former players after Paterno was fired made me want to puke. We don't know how bad the situation was and who all was involved.

It might be unreasonable to expect the entire Penn State institution burned to the ground. But I think most would just be satisfied if the football program was burned to the ground, especially the facilities these crimes took place in. The football department enabled a pedophile, not just once but over and over to the point of allowing Sandusky keep a little boy with him on bowl trips and did nothing to stop him. We may never know just how many victims there are in this case.

What if it was Iowa? I would like to think we would have reacted a little better than this. After seeing how the student body at Iowa reacted over the PP incident I could not imagine them holding a rally in front of Hayden Fry or Ferentz's house. I would hope former Iowa football players would not take a stance like Franco Harris did (and others). If something like this happened at Iowa I would be embarrassed and I don't know if I could ever wear the school colors again. It does not matter if it was Hayden Fry or Kirk Ferentz, I would have wanted them to pay for these crimes and not had built a statue in their honor.

There is a difference between donating to the defense team of Sandusky, Spanier, etc and donating to the athletic department. It was select individuals who were responsible and are going to bring huge monetary losses to the University. Therefore I see nothing wrong with people donating money to see that all of the other people in the university and athletic department who had no role in this whatsoever aren't punished as well.

That same football department enabled a pedophile. Allowing a pedophile access to their facilities to commit these crimes! People giving money to support this are sick.

BOOM. TRUTH.

If you really think that people are giving money because they support the actions of Sandusky, Spanier and the rest of the people involved then you are stupid.

Maybe you should stop supporting Iowa athletics because of the actions of guys like Pierre Peirce, Satterfield & Everson, DJK, etc. After all, by supporting the athletic department you are saying that you support rapists and guys that deal and use drugs.

are people really this stupid?

i mean seriously. this is a turrible analogy.

the equvilant of what happened at psu would be if kf knew satterfield was a serial rapist of underage girls, helped cover it up, then gave him the keys to various campus buildings and looked the other way while he volunteered for a mentor program for underage girls.

No, you are right these people are giving money because all they care about is Penn State football. Obviously they do not care that a little boy got sodomized in the locker room. Give more money so they can paint the walls, that will make it all better. The team needs to win, no matter what the cost is!

Horrible analogy, not even close to the situation that has happened at Penn State.

So your opinion is that donating money to an athletic department is only seen as supporting any illegal activity that went on if it is narrowly defined in terms of the PSU situation, otherwise it is not viewed as supporting illegal behaviour? That's logical.

So what about the fooball players that are committing to PSU? Are they supporting pedophiles, what about the parents of kids who let their kids commit to PSU? I guess they are supporting it to. I hope you aren't going to watch the Big Ten Network this year, actually I hope you cancel your cable or dish that carries it because some of that money is going to PSU athletics and as you know, anyone giving money to PSU supports pedophylia.
