I read that extension as window dressing to not lose recruits because you've got a coach with less than 4 years on his contract. Extend it a year to keep it at 4 years. Then go get Scott Frost after this year.

The thread about the Mike Riley extension is fairly calm but it goes on for like 4 pages so I didn't have time to read it all. There is another thread about how they should fire everyone. "We are Nebraska and don't have to put up with this" yada yada. That one is much better.
They so screwed up not going after him last time.

I love reading that site. Enough so that I VPN in because my IPs are banned from home, phone, and work.
A few months back I did some trolling when the "stuck in the 90s" thread was going on here and they dropped the hammer on me in like 10 seconds.
It's more fun than trolling clowns because their team used to be good, but they can't accept that they suck and should have stayed in their JV conference. I.S.Who fans don't have anything like that to cling to so it's not as funny.
I heard rumors they tried to get Bielema last time around but he ended up turning them down. I don't think MR was the 1st choice.

He couldn't have been...not with his resume. He has no midwest ties. He never won a single conference title at Oregon State. He had a losing conference record and was barely .500 overall. He was an absolute disaster in the NFL.
He had to have been like the 3rd or 4th choice.

Smart guy. Bielema couldn't even turn that pig around now, they're too deep into the musical coaches game and they're not going to get out.
Their space cadet fans want to fire the current guy every 2 years but they don't stop to think that that's why they can't get a quality coach or quality recruits.
What credentialed, quality coach would take a job there after they fired two guys who had .688 and .691 winning percentages, never missed a bowl game, and finished the season ranked in 11 out of 13 years between the two of them?

Yeah no way Riley was high up their list.. Wouldn't surprise me if they went after Bret and he gave them the predictable answer. They must have felt it was too early to give Frost the keys to the kingdom. But by not doing it when they could have there's just no telling when the stars could align for it to be done again or if they ever will. That's a guy that would have used Nebraska as his 'dream job' Instead Riley went to Nebraska before OS fired him. It's one of the few times a mediocre coach was able to get out ahead of the posse at his old job and land a better one.

He was also in his 60's. It is/was just an odd fit. Raid Urban's staff, Saban's staff, go somewhere, they had other options. Brent Venables will likely be the 'it' guy at the end of the season would he even take the Nebraska job if they can't get Frost?
