Riley gets an extension

It cracks me up how everyone talks about Nebraska being a joke of a program when they have 5 more wins than Iowa since joining the Big 10, they also have won 2 bowl games since joining to our 0. Don't get me wrong, I hate Nebraska but they are a storied program with 5 national titles and 2nd all time in bowl appearences.

Next thing you will be telling me is how great the "Black Shirts" have been. This is another part of the Nebraska mystic that cracks me up. Their defense has been so freaking bad...I honestly wished for Wisky to score 80 on them...70 wasn't enough. The issue has never been that they "were" a national powerhouse...they were. The problem for most of us is that their fanbase or a subset of it, continues to look down their nose at a program like Iowa, even though they have been beaten in 3 of 4...and it should have been 4 if we could cover a punt return. I guarantee they are hoping for a final game rivalry with Penn State or something because the supposed rivalry with Iowa is beneath them...after all, it's Iowa's Superbowl.

They are a joke - they are on their 4th coach in 15 years, still paying 2 of them and have absolutely NO identity as a program. 5 more wins is great and all but who have they beat? Lil Debbie fan will be the first to tell you they have "more wins" then Iowa over the past 15 years or so, but they have absolutely nothing to go along with them. No BCS games, no conference titles, no top 10 finishes. They have annually gotten their doors blown off every season by a minimum of 4 teams since joining the B1G and while I'll entertain that you can say they are in a similar tier as Iowa, they have a lot less to show for it.

Nebraska fans like to pretend to be a tier above Iowa so they act insulted when people call it a rivalry. For a lot of them it's not an act. Even though, as you said, we have many more BCS bowls, conference titles and top ten finishes over the past 15 years. Nebraska has none of these, zero.

It's all smoke and mirrors with them. For the life of me I don't know why a 4star from California would want to go to Lincoln. Actually I do know why and it's not tradition. btw, it's got to be downright humiliating for them to lose 40-10 in front of a captive national audience. They view that game as a big advertisement for Nebraska football.

Starting with 2001, when we became relevant again, these are the results:

Total Wins
Iowa - 131
Neb - 136

Conference Titles
Iowa - 2
Neb - 0

BCS Bowl Games; Wins
Iowa - 3; 1
Neb - 1; 0

Top 10 Finishes
Iowa - 5
Neb - 1

NFL Draft Picks
Iowa - 60
Neb - 58

I think it could be nice playing them earlier in the season. Could possibly mean we don't have to hear "our guys didn't show up to play" excuses that we've heard recently after they've hit their late season skid and have very little to play for.

All true and I agree the fan base is delusional but we aren't a whole lot better. If we were, we wouldn't lose to the likes of Iowa States and NDSUs. If you ask anyone outside the state of Iowa who has the better program they will say Nebraska even though it's not true anymore. It's even worse in the media. In a vacuum if Nebraska is 5-0 and Iowa is 5-0 we are ranked 20th and those fools would be 10th.

I don't think anyone is saying that we are "a whole lot better". I think the crux of the argument is that they are no better than us....and in fact, by virtually every measure out there, we have been better (even if slightly so) than them...but their fans act as if we're akin to Iowa State and they are the current version of Alabama. That's the issue....

Exactly, recently, Iowa has been the better program. Not historically - that's not even close - it's hard to jump around with 5 national titles.

Indeed I have and they are stuck in the past to some extent but no more than we lean on 2001 and 1985. I actually thought getting rid of Pelini was a bad move. He had them on the cusp every year. They have suffered from an identity crisis ever since.
It was a bad move, on their part. Pelini had some bad moments, but he was a tough minded coach, and was more suited to Midwestern football than the current joker. I think he would have eventually got them closer to where they want to be. The dude always won at least 10 games, if I remember correctly. Not good enough for entitled Husker fan.

So, why is it? I sure as hell don't understand it.

Well I have a pretty good idea of how it used to work in the 90's from sources close to the situation at that time. Let's just say I believe they had a well developed system of rewards from sources not directly affiliated with the university.

Nebraska is doucheville, don't get me wrong, but don't think for a second that this isn't what happens at every P5 football program, including Iowa. There are huge amounts of gifts, large and small, legal and illegal, going to high profile recruits who can't afford them. NCAA football and basketball are about as clean as Tracy Claeys' backside.

Neat they gave their coach an extra year on his contract they will have to pay once they fire him mid season. If the guy wasn't making millions I'd feel bad for him being the scapegoat of a fan-base too delusional to realize talented football players don't want to go to live in Nebraska.
