Talking about more than one game's score. I realize that's what you chose to focus on because of this year's result, however, I was speaking more from a program standpoint - trips to NCAA (or NIT I guess), overall recruiting, fan support, etc.
And yes, let's keep it in the last 20 years or so...because if you have to go back farther than that to justify who is better...perhaps the more recent results haven't lived up to expecations? Let's face it, we can all learn from past mistakes so it stands to reason that a good program would be moving UP as you go forward. Shouldn't need to go back to the beginning of time.
So your definition of the ISU-Iowa series is measured by who goes to the NCAA tournament or not is just idiotic and ignoring who plays in the stronger conference. You can say "Well Kansas has won a title last before a Big Ten team, so the Big 12 is better." go ahead, but I would have liked to see Iowa in some other conferences this season, but there have been times when the Big Ten has not been good either. Did ISU in conference play a No. 1, 2, 3, two 4, 7 and 11 seeds in the NCAA tournament? I guess Iowa's "easy" conference schedule leaves no doubt that they didn't belong in the NCAA tournament.
If the NCAA is your measuring stick, fine so be it, but I will take Iowa's NCAA results than some other programs. Also, if you think Iowa isn't going to have a 7 out of 9 year NCAA tournament run then you are nuts.
Here is the thing with ISU, all these teams that consistently bring in JUCO's or transfers have their pipeline run out, or they end up reaching on "experienced" players rather than sign a freshman. I will say this, Fred has done a decent job in recruiting freshman, Niang is for real, but we don't know a lot about anyone else like Dorsey-Walker and guys that are suppose to be really good on paper don't always pan out, not saying they won't, but don't get too excited that Fred has a two year string, it is awesome that they are going, but to think that they are better in the rivalry and superior because of that is a bit of a stretch at this point.
