Rebuilding in year 7

We've done pretty well since Fran has arrived.
18-17 frans second year, and since then we've posted records of 25-13, 20-13, 22-12 & 22-11. We've been back in the NCAA tourney 3 years in a row. This years still very young. If they can figure out the D, this team can score and could turn this around.

1 top 100 recruit in 3 classes is pathetic with how many scholarships we gave out. He can't recruit, simple as that.

Correct. But one in one class and two good ones in the next (not sure if they're top 100 or not) is pretty good. Not to mention locking up Weiscamp and his two kids who we could lose with a coaching change.

That's actually just pretty average if you compare it to other big ten programs. We probably have the second least talented team in the league this year besides Rutgers

Outside of PG I think Fran's done okay recruiting but at some point they're going to have to figure out how to coach defense. And this isn't a new development. In 2 of the last 3 years, Iowa has started well but nose-dived over the last half the B1G season because they're defense isn't good.

I agree it's average. The question is, is he better at getting good recruits that aren't ranked high to make us better than average. I think he is. Guys like Marble,White, Pemsl, Jok, and Bohannon were well worth the scholorships.

Our biggest problem now is the unbalanced classes. I'm not sure if that's a Fran problem or just random. What do you think?

we have 4 FR or RS FR that will be all B1G players. whoever thinks fran doesn't know what he's doing is lost.

I've always been a Fran supporter, but 20 losses this year is a real possibility. That just shouldn't ever happen.

I was just thinking that and I agree (I could see it the first year or so, but certainly not 7 years in). 20+ losses this year looks very possible, unless they figure something out in a hurry.

Unless you're Duke, Kansas, etc. rebuilding years are probably going to happen every so often, but I didn't expect Iowa to be anywhere near this bad.

Having unbalanced classes is all on Fran

What sucks is losses like this happen all the time so by itself, it really isn't that big of deal. But when it happens during a season where you already lost 4 non conference games, you're really in trouble.

Once Cook is back, we could still end up looking like a tournament team by the end of the year. What sucks is it doesn't matter because we've already played ourselves out of it.

For me... Frans done enough for the program that he gets this year as an absolute free pass but he only gets one year.

So flash forward next year... year 2 for Pemsl, Cook and JBo... Hopefully they will be solid building blocks. Add in Baer who I think is still best fit as a bench contributor. We really need a guy like Isiah Moss to step up to help with scoring as we lose Jok. We'll also need some freshman to step up. I'm just not convinced there's much value in guys like Uhl, Wagner, Williams or Ellingson. Maybe Wagner but I think he's just an athlete playing basketball and so I'm not sure he can be anything other than a hustle kind of guy but not be able to really score.

Fran says Jok had a terrific game. Bullshit. I don't care how many points he scores. He plays zero defense, none. That mentality is why the team plays no D. I'm sorry but a player can hardly have a "phenomenal" game playing 1 end of the floor.
