Rarely watch ESPN anymore

Some have mentioned the MTV problem. This was my first thought. I'm in my 30's and remember watching Keith and DP and laughing my head off because they had serious talent and made the highlights better. I don't mind that kind of entertainment. But now, it's filled with fluff and very little nationwide coverage. Other than live coverage, I really don't care to watch ESPN anymore (can't believe I just typed that).

Also some people mentioned ESPNews. That's not the same. That's like your typical highlights from a local TV station. Sportscenter used to be highlights "with style" (now it's overanalysis with stuff).

The sad thing is, my wife mentioned this about 5 years ago (how can you watch that, they don't talk about anything). Unfortunately, I agree with her now.

While what you say here is true, that's not what he was getting at. Sites like this are loaded with MMQB's, who don't feel as though they need to hear much analysis, since they "already know what's going on". So they just want highlights, and they'll break it down for themselves.

Same result, but for a different reason.

While I find the concept of analysis from a thirty second highlight package to be laughable, I do understand how self appointed experts think they are accomplishing just that.

However, you also need to realize who the detailed analysis is aimed at; Fantasy geeks and gamblers. Those people outnumber the MMQBs by the millions.

I agree completely that it's a very sound business decision to do things the way they are. I just liked SportsCenter the way it used to be. Everything else can stay the way it is, and offer up all kinds of analysis (I'm a fantasy geek, too). But I liked SportsCenter much better when it was pretty much just a highlight show, which is why I rarely watch it anymore. I know it's not going to change, it's just a personal preference.

tm, you are going for a job like this right? Thing is secpn does not give "detailed analysis". They hardly cover the B10 and they just spout opinions, with nothing to back it up. "Who's the hardest hitter?" "Best finishes?". They cover opinion stories. Since they dont cover the B10 hardly, we have to do our own homework and we already have an opinion, now we just need to see the plays or do the math to see if our opinion works out correctly. There are a few on here that bring very good info with them, Jon being one of them. Having fast and accurate info, is invalueable, and I would like to thank those posters and Jon for that.
If you need secpn to break things down for you, you shouldnt be betting anyway. If you want someone else to do a job for you, you will be disappointed.

Sorry but I cant stand olberman, IMO hes a total ****** bag. Berman, Ditka, and tom jackson on countdown are about the only ones i pay attention to.

1. Olbermann was much better when he was at ESPN. Don't let what he is now cloud that fact.

2. Berman? Really? The guy brings nothing but cheesy-a** nicknames to the table, and that schtick wore thin on me about 8 years ago, when I ceased being 13 years old.

And you say this like you came to some sort of startling revelation!

Guess what, that is the way media has been trending for a decade. If you turn to a "News" network, you don't have a guy in a suit telling you what happened in the world, you get a split screen with two partisan hacks telling you why this or that will destroy/save America. You turn to the weather channel and they don't show you the radar, they show you some guy chasing a tornado.

The "Media" is not geared towards informing you, they are gearded towards keeping your attention. And ESPN knows highlights are not going to keep your attention. They have to provide you with something else, and chances are that it is something that either comfirms what you already believe, or something that pisses you off.

LOL sorry I got your pantys in a wad over Olberman. Not to mention its pretty lame you found the need to defend him when someone simply states there opinion of the guy.........TOOL
