Rarely watch ESPN anymore

The people who watch ESPN and SportsCenter religiously are the same people in the United States who think Iowa and Idaho are the same state and can't name the capitals to 3 states west of the Mississippi. So why would ESPN want to change anything they are doing?

Maybe I'm the minority, but I can't stand when they put Jesse Plammer on, especially as a color commentator. Seems like his knowledge of the game isn't too abondent. ESPN looks like they are grooming him to be the second coming of Herbstreit.

Not to mention the fact that he's an SEC homer. Herby is about as objective as you can possibly be, especially considering that he's a former OSU QB. He's not afraid to say when OSU isn't very good, or recognize their problems (see his stance on the Tressel incident).

Palmer is nothing like Herbstreit, either in objectivity or in knowledge of the game.

I think you are in the majority. I haven't been a regular watcher of ESPN for 10 years. Games - yes.

Exactly. They broadcast to the lowest common denominator of sports fans. That's why Skip Bayless and Woody Paige are on TV five days a week. The frustrating thing is ESPN has so many resources that they don't take advantage of, they could be such a better network. Also, the fact that they have so many conflicts of interest now, especially in college football, makes it hard not to be skeptical of a lot of their programing choices.

I don't watch ESPN for the same reason I cancelled ESPN the Magazine....it's too busy...busy hype and large/small text with colors....opening credits look like a kalidascope.

The opening credits for itself lasts, what, a minute?
The magazine got so busy it was unreadable.

I stopped watching ESPN as much as I used to after I realized that I'm not a Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Jets, Patriots, North Carolina, Duke, SEC or soccer fan...somewhere along the line ESPN stopped reporting about sports and started trying to shoe horn the nation into a nice little demographic that only cares about a few teams and they're trying their damndest to make us all fall in love with soccer so they can go global and truly be "the worldwide leader"...

It also gets old when you turn to SportsCenter only to find they spend as much time on the Yankees and Red Sox as they do on the rest of the entire league...not to mention they somehow Jedi mind tricked Bud Selig into putting all of the rivalry series (Cubs/Cards, Dodgers/Giants) all on the same days, burying great rivalries under Yankees/Sox coverage even more, for a few years...

They've stopped talking about things we all like and started telling us what we should all like and I don't like THAT! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch the top10 plays of the day so I can see if any Der Crappest Leaguen soccer or college lacrosse plays made the top 2...again...

I watch Baseball Tonight, and anything that features Erin Andrews :D

The reason you don't see much on the Brewers despite their success this year is where they are located. The programming has such a slant to East Coast teams, mostly the Yankees. A lot of their announcers and behind the scenes staff are Syracuse grads and, for the most part, from the East. The Yankees could be out of the playoff race and still get top story billing on SportsCenter. And yes, lots of Jets and Giants coverage as well. It isn't what it used to be.

Pam Oliver is so horrible that she makes the others horrible just by association. I know that their other football cover guys aren't bad and some are pretty good, but yea, she's just horrible. Only she can make a 89 yard TD run sound like a 2 yard gain.

Pam Oliver is much better to watch when the camera is behind her.:D

From the front, her 5-head is terribly distracting.

Besides, isn't she Fox Sports?

I don't really have anything to say, just wanted to use the quote function.

Because they have the average fan watching, and they like the analysis because they generally can't do it themselves. It's most of America, and it makes ESPN money. I get that.

People on this type of message board aren't typically the average fan (or at least I wouldn't think so) and this is where you get the hate for ESPN analysts.

Just my opinion.

I think you're absolutely correct. In fact, the people on this message board are exactly the kind of people that ESPN ignores. They can't compete with the detailed coverage this site can give, and they know they don't have a large audience who wants to hear about Iowa football.

Right now I'm just hoping they put Corso down. It's pretty awkward watching him struggle the way he does.

Did anyone else try and swallow a few minutes of their college football preview show this past weekend. I had to turn the channel when Corso tried unsuccessfully to pronounce "Martinez". As in Taylor Martinez. Herbie jumped in immediately to minimize the damage. Awkward laughs which is becoming all too common.

While what you say here is true, that's not what he was getting at. Sites like this are loaded with MMQB's, who don't feel as though they need to hear much analysis, since they "already know what's going on". So they just want highlights, and they'll break it down for themselves.

Same result, but for a different reason.

Was there anything better than Watching Oberman and Dan Patrick back in the day?

Sports center has become a parity of itself.

Pretty much, spot on.

Agree 100 percent with the original poster. I stopped watching Sportcenter about five years ago. Got tired of the same things ... Some of the studio hosts got a little tiring to listen to. Now I simply rely on the Big 10 Network and the internet for any Hawk news. If I want my Tebow fix I know ESPN is always there for me ...
