PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 10 schols/year

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

I think this is worse than the death penalty. A 1 year death penalty wouldn't be that bad compared to telling a kid you will never play in the post season while you are at PSU. Brutal...

This. Just think about it, how do you recruit a kid and have to tell them they won't be playing in a single postseason game. It wouldn't surprise me if most, if not all their current recruiting class never sets foot on PSU campus.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

10 initial scholarship losses and 20 per year for four years

So if I am reading this correctly, they lose 10 scholarships for the 2012 recruiting class and now only have 5 to give the 2013 class. This right?

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

Guess if I was a recruit, that would definitely impact my decision (no bowl games, etc.). Not to mention, I don't think I'd want to be on a team that gets heckled mercilessly every time it goes on the road.

I believe the numbers to remember is that the most amount of scholarhips they can give in one individual year is 15 and the most amount of scholarships they can have on their roster at a given time is 65.

I think you're grossly underestimating the loyalty that PSU has, like it or not.

PSU fans have a lot of loyalty and will continue to have it. However PSU can't field a legit team from kids who are fans of the team.

SMU took over 20 years to become respectable again after the death penalty, and they were one of the better programs in the country at the time. Having no program at all for two seasons means you lose most of the players already on the roster, which leaves you building practically from scratch. SMU was actually allowed to play in '88, but they elected to sit that season out because they couldn't field a viable team.

No way is this penalty harsher than the death penalty.

On a side note, I'll eat my crow. I didn't think the NCAA would levee sanctions in this case. For the most part, I think the sanctions are fair. I'm not sure about the $60 million, though; that really is something I'm not sure the NCAA should stick its nose in. It's not that I don't think PSU should have to be an active leader in the fight against child abuse, because I do. But I'm not sure the NCAA should be the one enforcing that.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

Yeah, I can see where it might not be fully felt until year 2 or 3.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

Jordan Hill. We have a big hole for you to fill!

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

I think that they also said that any Penn State player that goes elsewhere will not count towards that teams scholership limit.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

I'm sorry but I feel this is a failure on Emmert's part, I think he should have included 1-2 year suspension of football operations as well.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

Now...time for the B1G to levy it's own penalty: BANNISHMENT

Their fans will remain loyal no doubt, but unless some of their recruits grew up diehard PSU fans I don't see any reason that they'd want to stay at PSU and not be able to play in the postseason and put up with endless amounts of taunting/venom.

Re: PSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

Disappointed. Not punitive enough. Does not effectively change the culture at psu.

WHAT ABOUT SANDERPSKY'S VICTIMS???

Re:pSU Penalty :: $60 million :: 5 year bowl ban :: 20 schols/year

The B1G will have their press conference in an hour. They may do something themselves.

Exactly. That stadium needed to stand quite for a couple of years. Not enough.
