Proof that Big Ten Refs Suck - DeShawn Sims Quote

Ah good ole Storminspank starting another thread complaining about officials or how the team got screwed. How many is that this week?

Fuller hit is hand. Clear as day, but it was a good no call IMO. It was after the shot and didn't effect it. Plus you got to let the guys play inside 20 seconds

Ah, good ole Cyclones17 to call out another poster.

Tell me, you think it is ok for a ref to tell a college player - if you didn't make it, I would have called a foul? Really.

I guess that doesn't shock me.

You act as if I whine about the refs all the time, which simply is not true. I've brought it up maybe 2 or 3 times this year. It's not about costing another team the game (at least not normally) - it's simply talking about the officiating. College BB officiating is some of the most subjective in the business - bar none.

Nope. I don't. I think the ref should get punished to be honest. A foul is a foul (although I let the kids play a little more the last 20 seconds of a game)

I have seen only a couple of your posts this week and they all seem to be whining about the officiating against the Hawks

The point is that Hightower and Valentine should have been removed from the Big Ten officiating lists fifteen years ago. They were bad refs then, and they're bad refs now. And it looks like they're telling the players that to their faces.

Hopefully this video will make its way up to the NCAA bigwigs.

That is stupid, like you said a foul is a foul, whether it happens in the first 20 seconds or last 20 seconds if it is a foul you call it....don't be a wuss and swallow your whistle at the end of the game....that is worse than actually calling the fouls at the end of games..

If it is an obvious foul than yes I call it. But I am not as likely to call a blocking foul on a guy while defending a drive to the lane or a lose ball foul in the closing seconds when players are scrambling for the ball.

Now if a kid is shooting a shot and he gets fouled, then yes you call that everytime

Cyclones17--are you Ed Hightower? Sorry for the things I've yelled at you for all these years, Eddie.

Hey Eddy (Cyclones 17), what did you see at the end of the game on fullers drive? Looks to me like that was a foul no doubt. Why didn't he call the foul then since Fuller didnt make the shot.

Anytime Valentine and Hightower team up it will be bad news for the Hawks...they don't like the Hawks' "colors"...or lack thereof. This needs to be investigated and clearly shows bias.

Am I missing something here? Sims states if the shot he made didn't go in they would have called a foul. How is this a bias against the Hawks when in fact they benefited by there not being one?

I've been critcal of Hightower for years, but i'm not getting the logic by some that this proves he "hates" us when a foul being called here would have givin a free throw and a chance to be behind.

That happens on a regular basis. I live in Kentucky and I watch John Wall benefit from this on a regular basis. If he drives into traffic and is contested on a shot and misses than it is a foul. Happens everywhere

I can think of two. And in one I explicitly said, "Just for the record, I am not complaining one way or another, just that I was reminded of the PSU game."

But continue to call me out, that's fine. Whatever floats your boat.

This isn't some new revelation. It happens all of the time in several sports. If you look at it another way, we were probably fortunate that he didn't go ahead and call the foul on top of the shot being made. His logic was probably that he didn't want a tic tac foul that obviously had little influence on the shot to determine the game by allowing him to make a foul shot to win it. The illogical part is that he was stupid enough to go ahead and tell the player what he was thinking.

Truth is it happens all of the time and I can't say that I really mind it at all...
