Right now there are 16 players in the portal. You'd have to expect several more in the next couple of days. Of the 16, I wouldn't consider any of them significant losses. I'm guessing the coaches are giving them an assessment of their future playing time, etc as a Hawk and what might be best for them.

Well, and given the roster limits they have to nudge a couple dozen kids out the door to make room for the freshmen. Just about every school is dealing with this. I don't know where all these kids will be going, but if they want to play football, it likely is going to be down a level or two.

Expect more cuts. Iowa is an attractive destination for good talent. The chief reason is our coaching staffs ability to indentify and produce consistent talent in the NFL and because Iowa consistently wins. While NIL is king and will still dominate the arms race, we’re lucky to be in solid footing heading into this new era of the sport.

I'm all in on this guy. He got 1 sack this year as an edge rusher so I'm sure he got quintuple teamed on every play to open it up for the rest of his teammates, which led them to the 64th ranked defense this year. Not sure why he was left off the 1st team SEC all conference team this year...and the 2nd team...and the 3rd team...

It’s a darn free for all in the portal. Especially among SEC . I think kids are shopping themselves around more so than looking for better football opportunities. I’ll bet they get their package from their team and immediately see if they can do better.

I have a feeling Iowa is quietly talking to lots of players. The ones who don't publicise their logos.

I think "lots" may be overstating things. Iowa still has to slim the roster down and we all know how big KF is on loyalty. I don't see him pushing good kids out the door who have been in the program for a couple years to make room for a slight upgrade in the portal. I think Iowa will look at where it is thin and try to fill a few holes. Another QB, CB, LB, LT. I would bet Iowa adds less than 5 guys out of the portal.
