PG search: Alexander/Williams

I agree, JH, but I think the staff is doing the right thing by taking the time to look around. There are better players out there, the question is whether we can land one.

If not, and KW is still available, he can help us. You don't lead the MVC in assists as a true freshman on a bad team if you can't play.
I would agree Freddy. You don't want to make a hasty decision. Kaylon's coach did say there were a lot of teams interested. I hope the Hawkeye coaching staff is looking at all good possibilities.

How about walking on to prove to coach he is serious? If he works his tail off, I would imagine he would get that scholarship! Then Iowa could go for another type of player(a big man?)further helping the team.

Williams would be rewarded for life by Hawk fans gratitude! I'm not saying he would be getting free drinks for life like Rob Houghtlin, but it would be worth something...

You serious Clark?

I'd place the street value on Hawk fans gratitude at about $1.50 right now...almost as valuable as a full ride scholarship for 2 years.

Team chemistry? and they have it now? The kid helped take a Kennedy team that was even on the radar to one game away from the state tourney two years running. Then to Evansville where they were picked in the bottom of the valley and they had their first winning season in ten years with him starting the last 26 games. He and Gatens and May and Cougill have played together and have respect for each other. Opposing each other on the court was fierce, none wanted to lose. Together they could be quite a tough combo and I know Kaylon, Gatens and May would battle their guts out for a win together. I don't see a ton of fire but maybe it is not desired.

One thing Kaylon would bring is some size to the PG position. He might be able to somewhat matchup with McCamey etc as their are several PGs in the BT w/ size. Kaylon would also allow you to play Cully at the two position and not put two smaller players on the floor at the same time. Kaylon could play 20 minutes a game at the PG and Cully could play 20 at the PG and 5-10 at the offguard. This could be very valuable in case of injury or if Brust has troubles adjusting to the college game.

Kaylon obviously has experience at the DI level and has an excellent A:T ratio even as a freshman. He definitely has some holes in his game namely consistent shooting. He also isn't as quick as some PGs. But despite these he has shown an ability to create for his teammates on a consistent basis.

It does just really come down to if he will adapt to Lick's coaching and style, given Lick's track record and Kaylon's problems in the past controlling his emotions.

Spank: was Tucker a good fit? Did you think he was when we brought him in? Was Tucker committed to being a Hawkeye? I just think if we are going to gamble a bit...do it with a kid who grew up bleeding black and gold...not saying KW is the perfect player for Iowa, but so far the alternatives are a Canadian kid,who might be fine, or a Missouri kid,who is described as a bit wild on the court, and might have grade issues...in my book, KW seems like a better fit as a high assist guy who has proven himself at the D-1 level...but I am open.

Marble is 6'5'' and 175lbs last time I checked...you think he is ready to guard a pg like Jordan Taylor or Kelsey Barlow?....or Lew Jackson or Tim Frazier? From all descriptions of Marble, he is not superquick and at his weight, not really strong yet either.
We saw Tucker try to play pg with similar issues.

Kaylon brings size to the pg position but Marble brings even more.

true but we have no idea (and I doubt if the staff even knows) if Marble could handle being the primary ball-handler on the floor at the next level. We know that Kaylon can handle it.

Hooper.. Expand some on marble at pg. I've seen all of the recruits play BUT marble. Never thought of him as a pg.. Maybe cuz I've never seen him. Interested in ur thoughts on marble cuz I haven't seen em. Love the other guys!

reading Doc's blog on the Walthall Big Ten teleconference...it does not sound like they are ready to go for KW....just gut feeling. He talked of combo guards...that sounds more like Alexander or possibly a post man(doubtful, tho),and most likely just banking it.

If they bank that scholly, they better be positive they will make the NIT next year, cus otherwise, it might be for the next regime.

This article is the best description of Marble that I have come across.

The Oakland Press: PrepZone

From the sounds of that article he is plenty quick, and his length also will make hell for smaller guards.

Also, toward the end of the article it says, "At Iowa, Marble Jr. is expected to play shooting guard, and possibly even some point guard with the way he can handle and distribute the ball."

So, don't be surprised if you see Devyn backing up Cully at the point guard spot next season giving Cully a breather.

One thing is for sure KW and Alexander go head to head Wed. night at Kirkwood. Big game for both in conference, I believe they are both tied trying for the #2 seed behind Ellsworth. I would think someone from the staff would be at that game or they may be banking it. I ask why would one invest in something down the road if you thought that you may only have one year to live. Whoever they get it better be someone who can distribute the ball on the mark on time. When the play is drawn up and the man is open it isn't for long. Passing is an art, not all have it. To borrow a line refering to D1 ball and the point guard position.... "the court is like the Serengeti, if you have a perpetual limp you will be eaten up!"

If Lick thinks it helps the team to bank it, even at his own peril, then kudos to him for doing what the thinks is best for the team, and not what is best for him.

I am no expert and have only seen him on tape. But Marble has good handles and can drive it. He is not a press breaker jet. But I think he can turn the corner on most people. Certainly well enough to spot Cully for 10 minutes per game.

I have visions of Tucker against UNI when people mention Marble at the point position. Again the best guards at the high school level usually play point guard because they are simply better than most of the people they are playing against. I would feel bad if Marble is forced into the point position again because his skill set seems to be perfect for an off guard, not a point guard. When I saw him play at the elite camp this summer he did handle the ball a lot, but the competition was sub par and Marble was the definition of getting his looks before his teammates.
