Peyton Mansell in Transfer Portal

I see this as a good sign that Petras has made no doubt that this is his job and everyone can see that including PM.

Now Mansell can find a place where he fits too.

Welp there goes the QB competition. Petras has his Union Card. Everyone ready for the next couple of years no matter how it goes?
They pretty much already had a year long competition.... That's part of why he's leaving because he didn't win it. I think Padilla and Hogan won't just lay down and give it to him either. Since Petras hasn't done anything yet if he doesn't start off all that well how long of a leash he gets would be interesting. But man we have such good weapons for him to play with I'll be more surprised then not if he doesn't do just fine.

I'd pump the brakes on the "Petras has his union card, it's a done deal" stuff. The staff, especially O'Keefe, couldn't say enough good things about Padilla....which is odd because they usually pump the brakes pretty hard on true freshmen. They raved at just how quickly he was able to pick up the offense and how in command he was in the huddle during the spring. There's a reason Georgia really wanted Padilla right before signing day. Let's let this thing play out this spring and fall before just anointing someone.

Ya and not too mention Deuce is the most hyped QB recruit I can remember Iowa getting. It’s going to be tough for him though not getting in until the summer.

Does anyone know anything about Padilla’s mobility? He’s definitely much shorter than Stanley and Petras. Padilla is listed at 6’1 and that might be generous.

Not to age myself, but I’ve never heard that name in my life

Rob, can we please ban all of the Generation Z punks from this board?

Do you know who Mark McGwire is? Dan is his brother. Big dude, monster arm. Problem was he rolled into IC when we were doing pretty well at QB. I think we had Vlasic and Chuck Hartlieb in the program. Dan transferred to SDSU or somewhere out west and went on to be a 4th round draft pick. But we're talking late '80's here, so it was way before internet boards, but McGwire was super hyped in articles and word of mouth. Large part of it was because he was Mark McGwire's brother and McGwire was one of the better baseball players back then.

He's has some mobility from what I've seen in limited reps during spring practice and August Kids Day. He's more pro-style than dual-threat though.

I'd guess Abilene Christian, they were recruiting him out of high school and only 3 hours from home.

Petras had a composite rating of 0.8858 (offers from Oregon St., Cal, Syracuse, Louisville, Colo St.).

Hogan had a composite rating of 0.8824 (offers from Baylor, Boston College, Georgia, Colorado).

Petras as a junior/senior: 7,193 yds (266 yds/game) and 84 TDs (58.9% completion%).

Hogan as a junior/senior: 3,878 yards (169 yds/game) and 48 TDs (49.7% completion%).

Essentially, Hogan is the exact same recruit as Petras. I suppose you could say Hogan's offer list is more impressive, but it certainly isn't by a landslide. Most of Hogan's hype comes from how active he is on social media and the lead-role he has taken for the 2020 recruiting class. But people behind the scenes also rave about Petras' leadership ability, he just does it with more of a "California Cool" approach.

I think the key point is that at the start of the 2020 football season, Petras will have 3 full springs and 3 full fall camps under his belt. Hogan will have 0 springs and 1 fall camp.

If you want to really lay a lot of hope at Hogan's feet, I will give you this: apparently he ran a 50-flat 400m as a freshman in HS. That is serious wheels.

I have no reason or belief that Hogan will win this job, I was merely pointing out that he will figure into the competition.

I know, I was responding to the "most hyped I can remember" part. I don't think he is any more hyped than Petras, and to the extent he may be, it is because of his twitter use.

Don't forget about Mark's brother Jay...
