I don't know for sure, but I doubt that was directed at you, just my guess.

To me this is no different than any other recruit...you never know how they will pan out at the next level. Look at Aaron White last season...a lot of people simply did not understand why he was signed.
Yeah Jok is coming back from injury, but White missed a lot of AAU time with injuries as well, so is Fran going to capitalize on others fears and lack of assessment, I think so. The injuries are dissimilar, but happened at the time when they would be recruited and evaluated the most.

I'm in the camp that thinks this signing is of the "low risk, high reward" variety. I guess if Jok ends up where he CAN'T play due to injuries, I guess that is one thing. But otherwise, worst-case scenario sounds like Fran just got himself a heck of a good shooter, and Iowa needs more of those. Best case - we just got ourselves a Top 25 recruit. I'm very happy about this!

No doubt the kid can stroke the ball. Love the way he elevates and/or shoots with his hands above his head. He will be very difficult to defend.

Were you or weren't you one that was on board with White...I think you and I had some discussion about him and we didn't agree...I liked Aaron from Day 1. IIRC, you were less than impressed with his offers...I could be very wrong though as there were quite a few that questioned his signing.

He only averaged 10.2 points as a junior, after averaging 19 as a sophomore, and his national presence flat-lined. What if this is the ceiling of his recovery? Many who saw him play last year report a player who is athletically not able to perform near his previous level.

As many have stated, Fran must have seen something in his game to indicate that he will be able to be a contributor. But as far as expecting this young man to be worthy of our sole scholarship for '13...it's high risk.

I saw him play last year and he didn't even score that game. I hope he was still recovering because what I saw he was very underwhelming. Has the size and frame though, big kid.

Definately plan on attending a few Valley games this winter to see the improvement from last game I watched him

I'm not sure if you've been under a rock for the last year, but last year he was playing injured, he is recovering, and though he isn't what he was pre-injury he's alot closer now than he was last year. Also, judge it more on high AAU performances which, though was inconsistent he showed flashes.

I can't agree with you on this here...all the "high-risk" talk, if it were two years ago I would be totally on board. However, with the incoming class and the addition of Uthoff, Iowa's roster is in very good shape to take on a player like Peter who will be one of the best shooters on the team the second he steps on the floor, but with also the potential to be a star. He also missed a full season and was injured again last year, once he is fully healthy again, which it sounds like his knee is pretty darn close, we'll see what he can do. However, do not underestimate the shooting factor that he brings, that alone is something Iowa desperately needs.
Fran had discussed banking this scholarship, so the urgency to sign a player for the upcoming class was not something that was the most urgent. Fran focused on Jok a lot over the Summer and felt it was worth giving him the offer and Jok accepted. If Fran and Co. are confident, then I am confident. Recruiting is hit or miss and if Fran hits on this one and Jok returns to 70% of where he was he will still be a good player for Iowa.

I hate to talk about next year before this year has started, but with Jok and Uthoff being available in 2013 I can't help but get excited about the depth and talent on that roster. I think Jok was a great pickup and I'm also in the group that is saying he is a low-risk/high-reward type. His mechanics are great and the ball has such a nice rotation when he shoots. He will have to be guarded at least out to NBA range, which will open things up tremendously. One thing I thought that was interesting from watching his videos is how much he favors his left hand when maneuvering the court and setting up his shot. He looks like he can use his right hand just fine, but prefers to use the left.

I am excited by this commitment from Peter Jok. I love having shooters who can put it on the floor and pull up when guys fly out to guard them. He has excellant handle with either hand,and a sweet stroke. He is long,and could get even taller. That means he will be able to get his shot off with ease out at the arc.

As his knees continues to improve, he will become a more dangerous slasher,and he is also a very good passer. All good things in a wing. I am so pleased that Fran has assessed his upside and clearly decided that he is going to be only get better physically,which will make him an elite recruit for Iowa.
It seems his brother and him are serious students,and want to pursue that college education,which means he will be a good citizen to add to the roster.

Wundergrape, I get that but what better options did we have with that scholarship? I do not think Fran is relying on him to be that NBA superstar the he was once projected to be. Jok has a very high ceiling and if any of those early projections pan out then the Hawks got themselves one heck of a player. Worst case scenario is Iowa got a contributing player on a team that already has a handful of other players with really high ceilings. I think the 2014 recruiting class is going to be more important to the long term success of Iowa as that is when Marble, Basabe, and McCabe graduate.

The numbers I have seen is that he shoots just under 40% from 3-pt range. I believe Oglesby was right around that number in HS, as was Gatens.

Dominique Collier - Combo guard out of Colorado 6-3 (listed at 6-1 in his profile, but article in last couple months listed him at 6-3), feels comfortable anywhere in the backcourt number 65 on top-150 list.
Malek Harris - 6-7, SF, highly athletic player just cracking into the top-150 after AAU, number 121.
Micheal Finke - 6-9, PF, emerging player from the AAU circuit and offered by Wisconsin as well.
Seth Bonifas - 6-8, PF, read a lot of good articles on him this offseason, looks like stregth is his main weakness, but emerging.

Iowa will have three scholarships, but I listed four players, the first two are the ones that I really want to see Iowa get and one of the last two as Iowa will need to start thinking about replacing Olaseni when he graduates. Collier can play either guard spot while Iowa still has Gesell, Harris is that kid that is ultra-athletic that can get to the rim that Iowa hasn't had since Roy Marble, Sr. not saying he is that caliber, but that style of player.

He put up some solid numbers shootin while only on a leg and a half. I imagine it was hard for him to get into the same feel with his shot as if he was healthy. He has already proven to be a highly thought of basketball player, and according to everything I've read a hard worker both at basketball and in school. He must be pretty mentally tough to play with the injury he had too.
