Peter Jok Is The Newest Hawkeye

Am I correct that we don't have anymore scholarships to hand out in that class? Barring anyone leaving the team that is.

In order to get out in front of the black and white judgements that we've seen in other threads, let me say this: this commitment is high risk/high reward.

Anyone claiming to know whether he'll be horrible or phenomenal is lying to themselves. This includes Fran, coach Horner and Peter himself.

The truth: there are just too many variables at play in order to predict what kind of player Jok will be.

Common Wunder, it isn't like the kid can't walk right now. He is recovering from an injury. Fran can tell a good deal about his current condition, and knows that he is a good outside shooter. I think the only thing up for debate really is how athletic he will eventually be when he is 100% healed.

I view this as a low risk/high reward type signing. Low risk in that Fran has got himself a good shooter (every team needs good outside shooters) and the high reward if he regains his form after healing 100% for the injury.

Correct.

You apparently have not read recent threads regarding Jok. There is a vehement faction who happens to hold the exact opposite of your viewpoint. Time will tell.

This is usually the case.....I have read the other threads, I do hope that me and those that agree with me are the ones proven correct. :)

i look at it as low risk, but for this point...we have a huge class coming in this year and will have a pretty solid team from this point. we aren't in the position like a couple years ago where we couldn't afford to miss on a recruit.

Fran had a razor thin edge there for a couple years, but with the good young talent on this roster, we can afford to take a gamble. that is probably why ECM was being recruited even if academics was in question. we could afford to miss out this year and still be fine, esp with Uthoff coming in next year already.

I like it. The good thing is that in Fran's system Jok will not have to be the "star." I think this will end up being a good get for the Hawkeyes. Fran is obviously confident enough to stick with him. I think Jok will be a nice addition.

If coming into his freshman year Peter would be expected to be one of the main contributors, if not, one of the two best players from day one, I would be worried.

If Iowa didn't have Marble, Oglesby, Ingram, Gesell and Clemmons, I would be concerned, but it is the opposite. Iowa is is good shape as a program, better than some nationally will want to admit, Jok could be that missing piece to put them in the real thick of things. Iowa needed another shooter and Jok can certainly fill that role. Also, the injuries that he has had take more time than normal to come back from, plus he rushed, so that set him back. The good thing is, he had to become a smarter basketball player for it and it is not out of the question that he can't become the player he originally looked like he was going to be. Surgeries and therapy have come a long way and the knee injury Jok had is a full year recovery when rehabbing correctly, on top of that the mental part of the game to get comfortable with your body again and trust yourself that you are okay is a factor.

The detractors can talk, but when all is said and done this will be a great signing for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
