Peter Jok Is The Newest Hawkeye

We have one scholarship available and one huge roster hole. Whoever takes that spot will be surrounded by as much talent as we've had in Iowa City in 25 years. This recruit, at this position, could very well make or break our chances to win a conference title, go to a sweet sixteen or more. If you think bringing in a guy who is recovering from patellar surgery isn't a high risk, then I don't know what to say.

Is it really that big of a roster hole? During Jok's freshman year, the 2/3 players will be: Marble (SR), McCabe (SR, really the only place to play him), Uthoff (SO), Oglesby (JR), Ingram (SO), and that's assuming Clemmons doesn't take over at point and slide Gesell over to SG. So during Jok's sophomore year there would still be Uthoff, Oglesby and Ingram at the wing. An injured Jok is basically another Oglesby. A healthy Jok, well, the sky's the limit.

This... However I think JO will impress a lot of the folks this year

wunder, I was not putting you in the Jok hating crowd all I was debating you was your "high risk" statement. If Iowa was still having problems with players leaving the program and needing Jok to be that superstar in order to win then I would agree this would be high risk. For Drake this might have been high risk. But with all the talent Iowa now has on the roster Jok does not need to be anything more than a solid role player to help this team win, anything above that is gravy. So we will have to agree to disagree, I say Jok is low risk with potential high reward.

Cool. Good discussion, though, guys. Your arguments are persuasive.

I like this quote from Peter: “I think they’re (Iowa) getting better every year,” Jok said. “They’re going to be something special. I just want to be part of it.”
