You think our fan base would go balistic if we won only 2-3 games from 2002 thru 2011? You're out of your mind.

And tell that to the recruit in 2020 who has only known PSU as a program that won 2-3 games per year since he began watching in 2012.

What would you propose? If you want to get to the root of it, I suppose you can blame the likes of Fox Sports and ESPN because in the end its about seeing my team on TV and about donors thinking they own a part of the team and will push to win at all cost, programs pressured to win at all costs, and doing anything to protect it.. Its about coaches having too much power..

Suppose we could go back to limiting coverage to ABC 1 or maybe 2 games on Saturday afternoon..

Penn State got the worst penalty since SMU.. Again what more do you want.. Because if you are talking cancelling the season, how ****** would people be having to cancel that night game in I.C. this fall. I am guessing very.. Sometimes people who make decisions have to factor in many things,
not just put a rope around a programs neck.

Yes, 10 years is short term.
They will win many more than 2-3 games over a ten year period, c'mon.
Recruits care about two things...playing time and head coach. Just ask them.

Most elite kids think about the NFL, and that's it. Winning big while at school is a bonus. The chances of winning big at Penn State has just been eliminated over the next four years. Perhaps their coach, with his NFL ties, can play to that card. That's about it.

Being on probation is different than just being bad. The Penn St fan base is going to rally around their teams the next few years. They will appreciate the kids that went there knowing that they will spend all/most/some of their careers playing under heavy sanctions. This feels a lot like Kentucky basketball when Pitino arrived. An under achieving power gets hit with heavy NCAA sanctions and comes out much better after it. The recovery time will be longer but Penn St will come out of this better than they have been since the mid 90's.

They get to the NFL with playing time.
That's the single biggest selling point any coach has.

That's why Nebraska's of the world don't have Mike Rozier's as their 4th string RB anymore.
Playing time trumps all.
Get on the field & the nfl will find me.

Then take away their 2013 football season, I really don't care but take something more than a handful of scholarships away and post season. SMU turned into a mid major after their death sentence, Penn State will still be a major college football program. Remember this discussion the next game at Penn State you watch, the fans will rally around this team and enjoy the moments when the cameras show Jay Paterno enjoying the nice view from the box seats with his family. Do not be surprised if they chant JoePa while his wife waves at the crowd. Yeah losing 10 scholarships sting but they will still be able to field a competitive team.

They will need to adopt Iowa's approaches in developing 2-star players to make them college stars. They will need to tweak their recruiting to look for the 'diamonds in the rough.' Just like Iowa sometimes does.
 




I said going into this that anything short of a long lasting death penalty would be a failure & it is.

The B1G "penalties" are outright laughable.

Whoever is in charge of PR for the Paterno family should be fired. This may be the worst PR I've ever seen.

First of all, I'm sick and tired of hearing that it's not fair because JoePa never got to tell his side. Bullspit! He had his opportunities.

His first opportunity was in front of the grand jury and he lied through his teeth when he said he had no knowledge of the 1998 investigation. Numerous documents no say otherwise.

His second opportunity was his last interview given to the Washington Post. Again, he lied through his teeth.

His third opportunity was in the "letter" he wrote to supporters when he basically said that it wasn't a football issue and still took no responsibility nor offered any apology.

And of course, he had countless other opportunities over the 14 years from the time he found out what Sandusky really was until the time he died.

He had his chances and instead of admitting everything and going to his grave with a clean conscience, he put himself ahead of doing the right thing.....as he's done for his entire career. "Pride cometh before the fall" was never more apropos than it was with JoePa. That and "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" certainly applies to his family.

Perhaps, maybe a Malik Golden but I'd still doubt it. As for if they pursue, Iowa has 4 rides to give for next year, right now. Any player who would come in this year with eligibility remaining after this year has to have a ride available. Things are pretty tight.

Now as for Bielema? ;)
