Peeps are saying that Joe T is better than advertised

I wonder if the person saying this was the same one saying that Josh Oglesby was the greatest shooter in Iowa history. I take all observations about Iowa basketball players with a grain of salt, especially offensively, because our teams suck ass on defense..,

Funny. I just remember EVERY game them saying how he would shoot lights out in practice.

If he was blowing by JaBo, its hard to get excited

...I think Garza is blowing by JBo at this point considering that he's likely alternating between riding a bike and the bench at practice.

The one reservation I have about going overboard here is that he should have some success in practice. There's nobody else on the roster capable of handling a quick PG.

I thought Evelyn might help there. I also heard that Fredrick has above average quicks. That said, no matter how good and quick of a defender you are, some guys are unstoppable. All you can hope to do is slow them down. That's why basketball is a high scoring game. With his elite quicks, I'm hoping this is where JoeT falls. Additionally, it can't hurt to finally have a guy like that to practice against, right? Iron sharpens iron.

A related question, how is Connor doing these days? Well enough to scrimmage?

I talked to Pat. He told me the people who have been impressed with JT. They're not people known for blowing smoke or currently in the program.

It's encouraging.

And that's been the problem in recent years.

sobering point, rob. i would only hope that the old standard of "if you're supposed to dominate your opponent and you do, then you are good" is in play here. in other words, if he's to quick and fast for practice, that should translate to the B1G competition. should. we will see in due time.

I have watched Joe in several posted games and like a previous poster has stated he looks the part. Likes to play in your grill defense and hates to lose. I love his comeback against a simply loaded team with two D1 commits. Almost won the game with defense, passing, and scoring. Love his passing to the Bigs, he will be a starter by early season or Fran will completely lose me.

I wouldn't count Evelyn out at the point with Toussaint backing him up. Evelyn is suppose to be pretty good with the experience factor.

Joe T and Connor fit more at the 1 th as n at the 2. Evelyn has the shooting ability to play off ball more. Also his assist to turnover ratio in a mid major conference was not good. I believe most minutes that he gets will be at the 2. Now maybe Connor has greatly improved his 3PT shot or Joe T is a threat to score from 3 consistently. Then Evelyn at the 1 could make sense at times.

Iowa does not have on-ball defenders capable of locking down a quick PG like JT.

Probably not, but you still have to be good to do something after you get by your guy. I'm not sure Trey Dickerson would have killed it in practice against this team. But maybe he would have, I really don't know for sure.

He is good. And I think he brings a needed skill set here. I'm just offering perspective.

Iowa needs quickness, if he can't shoot, well, that won't affect his defensive intensity or ability, concur, excited to see if he can bring the NYC snark to Iowa.

I know, and I get it. But he's not going against Bohannon and Moss in practice. Hopefully your comments are more an indictment on the last couple years than it is on inside knowledge of CJ and Evelyn.

I think the bottom line is we are all cautiously excited to hear about a PG with the qualities being described yet deservedly pessimistic at this point. I'm just glad to hear about a defensive mentality, regardless of scoring.

I assure you CJF is not quicker than Moss.

Since CJ is white, there's a good chance you're right. But stereotypes only go so far. Maybe he is quicker. But even if he's not, he might play faster and be a better defender.
I am basing this strictly on seeing them both play. Their pigment has nothing to do with it.
