Payne

Since there is a Cougs thread I figure I would start a thread titled Payne.....

Cully definitely is not a guy I want as a starting PG but it would be nice to have him this season as a back up PG.

Iowa really lacks a back up PG. Stubbs is not going to cut it, and Marble as a PG is not really that good of an option in my opinion.

Lets just hope Cartwright is never sick or hurt this season. And by the way I don't think the game yesterday can be simply passed off as Cartwright was sick so Iowa lost or Creighton shot lights out which is why Iowa lost.

I predicted a 16-17 win team this year and this is how an team who wins that many games looks at times. Iowa is better as a "team" this year but they still lack a lot of talent and talent at Key spots.

He didn't want to play second fiddle, so he left. Too bad, he could have started his jr and sr years and become a nice 1/2 at the PG spot with Mike.

If you don't get what you want, look elsewhere instead of working through it, I guess.

Yes, BC out will be devastating to this team.

"Payne did not want to play second fiddle..." It was painfully obvious to Fran that Payne was NOT going to be his first string point guard for the next few years. And Payne obviously saw the handwriting on the wall. He simply was not good enough to be a starting point guard for Iowa for 3 or 4 years. Had Fran depended on Payne for the next few years to be his starting point guard, Iowa was going nowhere fast. A point guard has to be able to use both hands dribbling and Payne was strictly limited to one side. Transferring was good for the Iowa program and perhaps good for Payne.

I would rather have an open scholarship than have Payne for 2 or 3 more years eating up a scholarship. Once Gessell and the others get here and get established plus any new players recruited, Payne would be a few minute a game backup at most. Sure we could have used him this year because we need the bodies at that position. Now maybe I am putting too much stock in Gessell and the other kids? We won't know how successful Fran can truly be until he gets his recruits here.

I remember Cully Payne as a kid who could get to the basket and score, and was a decent 3 pt. shooter when he was open. I was disappointed when he left. Would he have started over BC? No, but he would have been an asset the the team.

Cully would have play significant minutes if he would have stuck around. It's a shame that kids think they are starters at a D-I program and don't need to pay their dues.

If someone can get what they are looking for somewhere else why not? It's their lives.

True, but that's today's throw it away society for you.

Don't like your spouse anymore? Divorce.
Kids not behaving? Medicate them.
Spent too much money and can't pay your bills? File for bankruptcy.
Not getting PT at your school? Transfer.

To each his own, but sometimes as a society we need to just buck up.

Clint Eastwood needs to give the nation a damn pep talk.

thank you mr. pollard!

Every division one guard is a good shooter when he's open. The problem when they aren't when they aren't.
