OT: Tubby Smith fired form MN

FGCU coach is not going to Minny.... he's loaded his super model wife is loaded. He doesn't need the $, but UCLA could be a draw for them. Bright lights of LA are brighter than Ft. Myers....

From what I've heard, Shaka Smart and Flip Saunders are on the short list. Smart would be a good national get and has a history with the Norwood Teague, the AD.

Saunders has a history and name in Minnesota. He coached a Golden Valley CC and had some really good teams before the school folded. IIRC, he also was an assistant under Jim Dutcher at Minnesota before moving on to the NBA when he coached the T-Wolves.

Minnesota might also look in-State. Matt Margenthaler has been very successful at Mankato State, sure it is a gamble and a longshot but what does Minnesota have to lose.
 
I had a dream last night that Minn fired Tubs and hired Steve Alfraud......Well, half of that has taken place. =D

BTW, with this post, I am officially a legend.


Also, In no way am I saying this will happen. Was just a weird dream to have the day before Tubs is actually fired.

Something tells me Minnesota is not going to fire someone like Tubby Smith and then look to Mankato State for their next coach.. I would think they have a pretty good idea of who the next man is going to be when they made this move.

Either that, or their AD is a flipping tard.

Ha. There are dozens and dozens of coaches that are millionaires, but that doesn't stop them from looking for less stressful gigs.

If this guy loves coaching basketball (and by all accounts he does), why wouldn't he consider the chance to coach in the Big Ten? He has already figured out what makes him happy. Why not join one of the elite, legendary conferences and see how he stacks up?

Also, I lived in Minneapolis for years. One of the great cities in the country. I would pick it over Fort Myers in a heart beat, especially raising kids. Who cares about winter weather? You aren't going to have more than a couple hours of free time between October and April anyway.

And May to September, Minneapolis is pretty tough to beat.

I will disagree with your logic that they have a good idea who the next coach is.

Spot on. And the opinion up here is split 50/50. Norwood Teague hired Smart at VCU, so there's certainly a relationship there. But might Shaka be holding out for a better gig?

And Minnesotan's are notoriously provincial, the "he's one of us" angle really works for Saunders. He played at the U and coached the T-Wolves to their most successful run.
