OT - Streaming

Ok one more question, it seems like the Apple device is best for this, but do you need one hooked up to EVER tv you have or?
Depends on what you have for a setup, if you currently have a box at each tv for your dish / cable and you don't have Smart TV's then yes you're probably going to need one for each.

yikes that could get expensive, but i think most are smart tv's but will have to check

Have been pleased with PS Vue for about a year.
The advantage for PS Vue is the ability to watch up to 5 TVs at the same time. Many of the others are limited to two.
This could be an issue if you have a lot of people watching different things on game day.

I had PS Vue for awhile. Main reason was for multiple streams. Some reason it started buffering a lot during football games. Switched to Hulu live with unlimited streams. The user interface is horrible for Hulu live. You can always download and pay for streams 4 us. They have every channel for 10$ per month. I mean every channel. MLB NFL PPV. Pretty sure this service may infringe on copyright laws but that is your decision. I would suggest you use a VPN service if you go that route.

I'm cable free. Using Sling Blue, Amazon Prime, Tubi and Pluto. Tubi is insane. It has old school Transformers and GI Joe. My boy totally loves GI Joe.

Sony Crackle is another good "free" app. Vudu is also good, and rotates in the "free with ads" selections on a monthly basis.

Right now, Crackle is offering "Easy Rider". Gold!

PSVue has Hallmark, at least the regular Hallmark Channel.
That is my wife's biggest complaint about Hulu Live. We can't get Hallmark. So around the holiday season it's a bummer. But she has found that Lifetime has similar movies that she also likes. She does like that Hulu live is cheaper than DirecTV Now especially because we already were paying for Hulu premium with ads.

With the changes to BTN streaming I wonder how that could potentially affect all us cord cutters. The good news is that none of the streaming services have contracts so you can change at any time.

The changes to BTN shouldn't affect streaming at all. I watched any BTN stream on my Foxgo app on my Apple TV anyway. It was 1000% more reliable than the BTN app. So that should be an upgrade actually, as all football games will be on the Fox app. Now for the couple basketball games that are on the BTN+, I'm not sure how that is gonna work, but I always have to pay extra for those anyway.

Wife and I been debating this for awhile now, but biggest thing she loves to record movies and shows all the time, what is all going to be required for that kind of a setup?

Youtube TV has unlimited DVR service You save one show in a series and they record the entire season. You can fast forward thru the commercals. They do have TCM for movies. They also gave customers 3 free months of Showtime without having to cancel when the period is over.....

Cloud DVR with no storage limits
Never run out of storage space. Stream your library wherever you go. Record simultaneously.

Hulu is very nice once you learn how to navigate the guide or lack of one, but it is essential for me. No commercial plan is the best. Can watch every show in a series. Working on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia once again right now. They have a nice selection of international TV and movies that I like. although Amazon Prime has a lot of the very same material.....

Its easy, with PSVue or with You Tube TV, they both have DVR. I think if I remember right with PSVue, the recording only stay on for a month. With You Tube TV, they stay for as long as you want.

I personally have liked You Tube TV better as I have used both. The interface is nicer, I like the home screen where it learns what you like and pulls up shows you watch so you don't have to go hunting through the guide for them. I also like with sporting events you can pick a team with You Tube TV and it will record all that teams games. I set it to record all Cubs games, Hawk football and basketball games. It is pretty slick.

You can also set the Live Guide to display the channels you prefer in order.....

Go to settings and then Live Guide

The new synonym for "streaming" is "latency". You will NEVER be "up to speed" with streaming, unless/until everything is giga+ speed across entire backbone and network. As of right now, that's just fact.

I am at least 10 seconds behind watching Iowa Football and Basketball

On the game threads people are posting about plays that I haven't seen yet sometimes

I believe the press release said both Foxgo and BTN2go will both be gone. And a new FoxLive app will replace them both. I would assume that there will still be a way to stream the early basketball games and non revenue sports games but just on a different platform. Why would they turn down an opportunity to charge us fans for something that they know we will fork out the money for.

I hopped on the DirecTV Now plan with their ‘lifetime’ rate - I get their 2nd best package at the bare bones $.

So 45 bucks for all the channels I need, about 80 or so. My nephew has a huge media library I can access for free through the Plex app. Netflix and Prime I also have. So for about 70 I have more desirable choices than I ever had with cable or a dish at half the price.

But if I had to do it all today, DTVN is probably not the best option. Regardless, you should be able to save a nice chunk of change per year streaming depending on devices, data plans, etc.

If you're talking about HULU, I am not seeing that.

Click on my name on the top menu
and a menu with Profiles | Settings | Account | About Help Center
Select Settings

And the only thing that shows is a menu with on/off functions for Auto Play | Stop LIve TV When Inactive

I have Hulu live. I have certain channels that are sets as My Channels. I also have my favorite teams added so all of their events are recorded. I think it was something I did during initial setup. I bet Google would tell you how.

Sorry about that. Youtube TV has that option. What you see is what you get with Hulu. I just put movies and TV series in MY STUFF, and navigate from there. The Keep Watching option does keep track of you recent viewing. Other than that you are at the mercy of Hulu.....

I had Directv and my bill was going up to over $180 per month, was a customer for at least a dozen years. They would have given me small discounts, but didn’t care when I said I was quitting. I’ve tried all the streaming services except sling. We have tried Hulu live, psvue, directv now, and YouTube tv. We were using fire sticks and ps vue had major buffering issues, as did directv now. Hulu was pretty good, but did not support 60 FPS with the 4K firestick and sporting events were annoying to watch. I switched to roku sticks and sporting events were great on hulu live, but Roku allowed me to try YouTube tv. Picture is great, it has a better guide and DVR. So we are sticking with YouTube tv for now. We also have philo, so my wife can watch her shows including hallmark. We also have Hulu on demand, Netflix and amazon prime. With all that it is substantially lower than directv satellite.

That's the opposite of my experience. When we called into say we were cancelling, they made a very weak attempt to keep us by offering us $10 off per month for 3 months. When I said that wasn't good enough, they basically said "Ok, bye". And I was a customer for 10 years.

Now they call every 2-3 weeks with these great half-price offers and stuff. I tell them the same thing every time: "If you had offered me this when I was still a customer, I never would have left." Then I just hang up.
Yep. Same thing here.
