OT - Streaming

I have Hulu live. I have certain channels that are sets as My Channels. I also have my favorite teams added so all of their events are recorded. I think it was something I did during initial setup. I bet Google would tell you how.

Ya, I have "my channels" as well.

Well, rather than starting a new thread thought I'd resurrect.

HULU has not reached an agreement with the ABC affiliate in this market. So I can't view the PrimeTime ABC football game. Previous years I could load up the ESPN app. but that is no longer free.

So I'll be listening to the game this week. What's nice is I won't have to look at those yellow uniforms.

You can't get it on antenna? You can cruise over to my place. Got a PSU fan coming over and I'm doing chicken and ribs on the pit barrel smoker.

Kind of you to offer. THe Antenna sounds like a good idea.

Yep, I'll always have an antenna now. I actually wish I had an option with the streaming companies to NOT include locals, and save a few more bucks as I can get those all free anyway with the antenna.

Not to hijack but do you like that thing?

I don’t do large cookouts and two racks of baby backs is the most meat I’d ever smoke at once. Worth buying for that?
If you only do 2 racks, no. I thought you run them on your kettle. I'd stick with that if that's all you do. I've only had it a few weeks, but I've done a brisket, shoulder, several racks and 2 rounds of whole chickens.

IMHO, the Weber smokey mountain is better than the pit barrel for brisket and shoulder because it is far easier to add wood to those and I've had issues imparting enough wood flavor. The pit barrel with the rack installed is really difficult to add wood to. But the nice thing about it is I was able to run the brisket overnight and it went strong for over 8 hours at temp. No way you can trust a smokey mountain to do that.

However, where the pit barrel absolutely excels is with whole chickens. It is amazing. I've gotta stop eating so much red meat because of my cholesterol, so I do a few chickens on it each weekend. I just ordered the turkey hanger and am going to aim for 4 birds on it this weekend and then use that as my meal prep for the week. Subbing out pit barrel chicken in enchiladas, chicken salad, pasta dishes, etc. is a total game changer. And chicken doesn't need smoke or if you want it, just a kiss will suffice, so the pit barrel really delivers there.

So in short, if you just want to do ribs, keep doing what you're doing. But if you want to get into the chicken game, get a pit barrel. Like I said, I ordered the turkey hangers yesterday and I wanted to get an Iowa bottle opener that you can mount on the cooker, but after that turd on Saturday I opted not to get the opener. Now I am kinda regretting it.

Thanks. The kettle is what I use currently, didn’t know if there were any advantages over that for ribs/pork butts, etc. I’m not a brisket fan, especially for the price. There are much more tasty ways to not spend $60.

I do my weekly meal prep on a Blackstone, by FAR the best $275 I’ve spent on anything cooking related.

Does the board have a consensus on the best streaming package that will include access to Hox games? I'm going to go with a Sling blue for the summer, but want to make sure I can get the Iowa games when football season starts. Base cable with the main sports channels is going from $70 to $112 next month. No thanks.

Had a fun little Friday night. A few weeks ago my debit card was compromised, so it was replaced with a new number and I forgot to update Playstation Vue. Got an email that I needed to update it at about 6 pm, wife and kids bitching at me about 8 pm that TV wasn't working. So I logged on to Playstation to update my card and first thing I saw was that they were cancelling service as of January 30th, 2020 and not accepting any new subscriptions. I thought to myself, well, I've been with them two years so it's not new.
Wrong. I tried 10 different places on their website to resubscribe, wasn't possible. I called to see if they could, apparently the subscription part of their website had been removed so it's not possible at all. I was having a huge watch party the next day and was wondering wtf I was going to do to get the game. Youtube TV won't work for me because of their bitchfest with Amazon. Then I remembered this thread and people had suggested Hulu Live TV.

Subscribed right away. While it's not nearly as good as Playstation Vue, it's serviceable and cheaper than cable. (Holy shit those damn unskippable commercials are bogus, not sure how anyone said that Hulu was better than PSVue.)

tl;dr - PSVue is discontinuing their service as of Jan 30, 2020 (better get something else lined up!)

Try YouTubeTV, it is better than PSVue.

time to edit the title of the thread. Go to the top click on links right side

After 2 seasons of HULU I would entertain Youtube TV if my wife would agree to it.

I don't like the navigation - too many clicks to go from one game to another.

Hate having to rewatch a game and get stuck in commercials. (I guess that would be any streaming service)

You can fast forward thru commercials on YouTube TV

PSVue is stopping service end of January.

I can’t get YouTube live to work properly.
No problem with anything else.

For Youtube TV you basically need 2 things:

Good internet connection. 50/60 mps. You can get it from Mediacom or Century Link if they are available. Mediacom had a deal where they gave you 1 year of Netflix free with any service.

Then you need a video box to connect to the internet and your TV. Most of them are wireless, but an ethernet connection is a bit better from the router to the Roku box or whichever box you choose. Roku gets the best reviews.
and I have had it from the first year it came out.

Just use an HDMI cable from the Roku box to the TV and you are set.

They have the Roku Premiere for $40 from Amazon now. That is an excellent price
