Oregon 6.5 point favorite

I agree with everything you say in this post except putting Matt Rhule on that list. He has been a good hire and scraped Nebbie off the floor and made them semi-respectable. Hell, they were ranked two weeks ago. Frankly, I was hoping PSU would poach him so Nebbie would have to start over again with someone less competent. Putting him in with Frost and Fickell is not a fair statement.
I don't get why people somehow think Rhule has proven he is an upgrade yet. The last three coaches all came in with solid backgrounds and have mostly spun their wheels.

Mike Riley's Big Ten records:
3-5
6-3
3-6

Scott Frost's Big Ten records:
3-6
3-6
3-5
1-8

Matt Rhule's Big Ten records:
3-6
3-6
3-3 (and I'd argue headed to 4-5)

Dannen had no reason to extend him.

Stats a skewed a bit by just looking at conference record. Look at it this way:

Riley got them to a bowl in his second season and then got fired after his third season. The firing was a bit of a quick trigger, but anyone could see Riley was going in the wrong direction. Then Frost failed to get them to a bowl for four years. Rhule struggled his first season, but got them to a bowl and won it last year. For a program that had grown into one of the biggest laughingstocks in all of college football, making a bowl after a 6-year drought is very much an improvement. This year, he got Nebbie to the point of being ranked and its dumb, mouthbreathing fans believing they could make the CFP. They appeared to be well on their way to improving the record from last year. They will at least make a bowl again.

Now, I agree that Dannen did not need to extend him. And honestly, all the contract really did of any consequence was double his buyout, but Rhule's agent did his job and texted Dannen every article he could find saying that PSU wanted him. That is how the game is played. Now, Karma has bit them in the ass a bit with the Riola injury. Oops.

BTW, they could lose out and go 6-6. Ehh. Riola has not improved much at all in two years after being the #1 overall recruit in his class. Does he look to find a better QB whisperer or just for a better program that is loaded and needs a plug and play QB? Its no secret Holgerson wants a HC job and would take about any offer at this point. Nebbie has one of the toughest schedules in the nation next year. It is not inconcievable they get worse next year. Then what?

The currently rotting in hell ghost of Larry Phillips will haunt them till the end of time and I'm here for it.

Remember the preacher from poltergeist? It's no coincidence that he looks like Tom Osborne's twin brother. That dude sold his soul to the devil long before he ever won a national championship. Hid guns for players in his office. Scott Frost hid in the closet while Phillips beat up his girlfriend. That program and fanbase is a rotten cesspool of filth. It's finally gotten what it's deserved all this time. And I hope Osborne dies watching his huskers getting beat by Purdue to go winless in the B1G someday.
