What the hell, just watched a commerical that fox will be dropped on dec 31st which is to air the orange bowl. Is there any truth to this I am so ****** off.

its true Sinclair broadcasting group (the company that owns Fox in Des Moines as well as Fox and CBS in Eastern Iowa) and mediacom are disputing over price. same thing happen 3 years ago....i seriously doubt the deal gets done. hope u have a friend with a dish!

Mediacom knows how much not showing the Orange Bowl would hurt them. Fox will leverage that and a deal will come.

Yes it's true. Sinclair, who I guess owns the rights to Fox is raising their rates. Mediacom doesn't want to pay and so there will be no Fox on Mediacom for now unless an agreement is reached. You could either go the DirecTV/Dish route if you're able to or get a pair of bunny ears.

Personally, I'm more upset at losing 24 than I am the Orange Bowl. I'll probably just go to a buddy's house to watch the game.

The Orange Bowl will not put pressure on anyone to get this deal done. These deals are not that short-sighted that one event/show would make or break it.

screw mediacom.......DirecTv is cheaper and has a better product anyway!
I have both services right now. I am getting 30MBs connecti times with my mediacom internet. THe television isn't as good but my fast internet connection is the trump card here. I have NEVER had connection problems with my internet through mediacom. DIrect tvs internet service is ...well non existant.

DIsh network has far and away the best picture of all 3. They have way more bandwidth to send the picture.

If you are a sports fan, your life would be better to rid yourself of that cable company and get DISH or DirecTV.

Mediacom should know that if they miss the Orange Bowl, they can just close their doors.

Anybody notice that due to this struggle, both of the bowl games involving in-state teams won't be on TV in-state?

I switched...back during the days of the "BTN Wars"...and I've been happy with DirecTV ever since. I hate Mediacom, but this one's on Sinclair...none of the other stations have this trouble with Mediacom and now Sinclair is working on 2 times in 3 years...what a bunch of D-bags.

Spank, you ever call Directv as a current customer to request deals? Talk about easy $!

All the time. They are very good about it. $20 per month credits, free channels for a year, etc... They've always been VERY GOOD to me.

When the Purdue game was not on last year, I got $20 off and Showtime for a year. And it wasn't even their fault.

The mouth of the midwest had a rep from sinclair on his show. The sincalir rep stated that the odds of a deal happening before the Orange Bowl was between 15-20%, mediacom is a joke, both Direct TV and Dish network were able to re up their contracts this year with out incident.

I believe if Sinclair doesn't reach a deal with Mediacom they will just make a deal with another affiliate from a different region. Iowa City got the quad cities affiliate last time Sinclair did this. So we didn't lose the station it was just some of the local programming was different.

I think the party in the wrong in this dispute is Sinclair, not Mediacom. Sinclair is trying to treat KGAN, KFXA and KDSM like CABLE TV CHANNELS. The expect to be paid for those channels like they were ESPN, USA, or the Disney Channel, even the BTN. However, none of the latter channels are availabe OTA, at least not right now. Whereas, the former are available OTA, and with better signals and pictures since the February digital TV conversions. If you have a TV with built-in digital tuner or a DTV converter box, you can get the Orange Bowl on Fox 28 or Fox 17 with a good digital-ready antenna, as well as the Super Bowl on CBS 2.

Now, my dad decided to switch us from Mediacom to CFU Cable during the first Sinclair-Mediacom dispute. We now get our electical, gas, garbage and cable TV charges all on one bill, and from what I understand, it's a bit cheaper than Mediacom was at the time, plus we have digital cable, which includes the NFL Network, and were able to get the Big Ten Network when it launched two years ago. So, we'll be able to get the Insight Bowl on Dec. 31.

Now, as for the Insight Bowl, Mediacom and the NFL Network might try to work out something for temporarily carrying NFL Network on Mediacom Connections 22. But then it could be contingent on Mediacom opening negotiations to carry NFLN full-time.
