I agree that it seems like there was some difference in what he said in those 2 instances. I think this speaks to the time of year and the ability to find players that fit what he wants. I think he will try to get players, but he's not sure he will be able to.This is what he said today. But it is NOT what he was reported to say last week. Last week he was reported to clearly say he was going to use at least one scholarship on this class and possibly two.
I actually agree with what he said today. As I said earlier, I was surprised that he came out and said he was going to use a scholarship when it was reported last week. I said at that point that I didn't think he would be the type to come out and say something like that without being sure. One week later he sounds far from sure.
This reminds me of his "everyone is excited" comment, when asked about the returning players and the signed recruits. Clearly everyone was NOT excited.
I don't know if this is a press accuracy issue, or if he talks a little loose, but this is the second time he has reportedly said something from which he has rather quickly backtracked.
Now before you all get riled up, I am not hating on FM. I am only stating facts. If you have facts that contradict my comments, please share.
As far as the 'everyone is excited' quote, I think that is normal. There are words and phrases that are said when every new coach is hired. Things like 'we will be more uptempo' and 'we will emphasize going to class' are right from the playbook. Has any new coach ever said 'we are going to slow the pace, take less shots, and just try to stay close' or 'we are not going to keep close tabs on the players' ? That's just the way it is.
