Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans.

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

In common law, assault is an act which causes a person to apprehend immediate unlawful person violence.

I was being sarcastic.

Oh, I know the program, much better than you. I just wanted you to elaborate on your blatant LIE thatthere was someone convicted of murder on that team.

.
I guarantee that Osborne has done more good than both Ferentz and Bo combined with all of the foundations and programs that he has been involved with. But then again, you're irrational and not particulary intelligent, so I wouldn't expect an unbiased opinion from you. You'd call Jesus himself a worthless POS if he was the head coach at Nebraska.

I personally don't know either of these guys, and I'm going to assume that most everyone else here does not, either. So, I won't judge someone that I don't personally know on tidbits of information I've been exposed to.

Remember, Sandusky and Paterno were great guys too.

Apparently the B1G network and ESPN/ABC do, too. How many prime time games does Iowa have this year?

<<You'd call Jesus himself a worthless POS if he was the head coach at Nebraska>>

That's the difference between Notre Dame, Nebraska and The Real World. ND and Nebraska fans are delusional enough to think Jesus would take either job.

Sorry 74, there are a bunch of idiots on here who don't know the difference between a conviction and a plea of nolo contendere.

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

I don't even know what that means

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

But if you are referring to anything chuck Norris related then, yes, I am THAT guy

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

smacks of a fan base desperately trying to hold on to the past...which is slipping away more with each year. 20 years ago nobody wouldn have taken the time to write this article. They're getting nervous

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

There is a legitimate argument that our coach is overpaid (as most of you know, I don't really care what he is paid), but at least our coach hasn't publicly told us all to F-off.

Am I right?

You are absolutely right.

I wonder when Nebby will figure out that it will be very, very difficult for them to win the Big Ten. Any year.

I like Iowa's chances against the Fuskers again. Should be a good game.

Nebby will struggle with Iowa, Wisky, NU, Mich, OSU, PSU, MSU in the coming years. It will provide hours and hours of entertainment.

They still have quite a bit of talent, but their days of dominance are long gone.

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

It must be a really busy day in the world of Omaha sports when someone needs to whine about Iowa.

Maybe he should just stick with wondering if Bo Pelini can keep his job, or when Bo will surprise his fans again by telling them to **** off.

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

I actually agree with Bo Pelini. Nebby fans should **** off.

Re: Omaha World Herald takes a shot at Iowa Football program, their coach, their fans

seems to me the decent thing to do is invite said sportswriter to join us on this forum. it might be fun.

" My question for you is why — after four Top-10 seasons under Ferentz — you allow your program to set the bar so low. Why you still treat a New Year’s Day bowl as if we’re living in 1992."

Someone hit the nail on the head with that one. You can't deny that he's right about that.[/QUOTE]

This. It was the point of the entire article. We all know the great divide between Iowa fans caused by the 2012 season. One of the main components of the so-called "haters" arguement was how low the bar seemed to be. While the writer was clearly taking a jab at KF and Iowa, his point was valid. In my opinion, way too many Iowa fans are happy with 7 or 8 wins and not being demanding of more than that.

Typical Nebby fan, to stupid to really know what is going on...

It's not realistic to expect Iowa to be a 10+ win team every single year. It is realistic however to expect your occasional rebuilding year, particularly if there is major coaching turnover. I think 8 wins is pretty good for being in the midst of that rebuild. Does that mean I'm content with 7-8 wins every year? Absolutely not but I believe they have a word to describe the type of fan I am: realistic.

Adam, let's not rehash 2 years + of bickering, but 2010 should have been a 1 loss season, at worst, and it was a 5 loss season (no coaching changes prior, during or after this season). 2011 was a rebuilding year with 7 wins (no coaching changes this season, either). 2012 was what then, byond the obvious 8 loss season? 2013 was a second rebuilding year in the past 4 seasons? So, in the past 4 seasons we've had two down years and two rebuilding years. That's an average of 6.75 wins per. Let's not pretend that an 8 win season last season means everything has been fixed. We shall see, there is a lot of new enthusiasm surrounding our recruiting. But if last season was a rebuilding year, as you put it, then that should always be the low water mark and 9 or 10 wins should be realistic.

The difference between your realistic and my realistic is that I expect more than 8 wins, you apparently do not.

Last year wasn't a rebuilding year, but it was a year of adjustment that came with a pretty manageable schedule. 2011-12 were rebuilding years after losing a lot of talent from the 2008-2010 run. 2009 was an amazingly fun ride and 2010 was absolutely disappointing, but people seem to be too willing to let those two seasons cloud their judgement when it comes to determining what expectations should be. It's ridiculous that some people are still dead set on demanding 8 wins being the low water mark.

TEXAS had a 4-win season just a few years ago. FLORIDA won 5 games a couple years ago. OHIO STATE went 6-7 in 2011. MICHIGAN won 15 games from 2008-2010. And you're demanding that IOWA'S low-water mark be 8 wins? That's not happening, and anyone who demands it is, at the very least, suffering from temporary insanity.

Well said. I believe Arvada's idea of 'realistic' is a little off. Iowa simply does not have the resources to reload every year. There will be turnover, we do not have blue chippers lined up to come here so development plays a key role. A majority of the players we recruit are not ready to play at a high level from the moment they step on campus. That often leads to rebuilding years. One thing Iowa has had is the luxury of low coaching turnover. 2012 Iowa was hit hard by that and our win total was a direct reflection.

As you said, this topic has been beaten to death but to expect 9-12 wins every year is just silly.

+1000

I sometimes wonder whether certain posters have ever left Iowa, or at least pay attention to the wider world.

I would reply to that this way:
Texas: They then forced Mack Brown out 3 seasons later (a coach who had one a national championship with Texas).
Florida: Will Muschamp went 18-8 his first 2 seasons and Florida and 4-8 last season, in his 3rd year (not his 14th season). We will see how much longer he stays at Florida.
O$U: 2011 was the year after Tressle and before Meyer. A career coordinate was an interim coach for one season. That isn't even close to being what happened 2010 through 2012 at Iowa.
UM: Then UM fired Rodriguez for having such a sh*tty record.

So, two of those schools wound up firing the coach, one coach just completed his 3rd season on the job and one coach was a one year interim head coach. Anyone that feels we should be thankful that we can sometimes win 8 games in a season, great. I don't agree with that.
