Olaseni is NOT going to Wichita State

Do you think there is actual a third mystery school Olaseni is considering. Or does he just want to build some suspense?

Im pretty sure everybody we sign is gunna play right away. Just dont have the depth to redshirt and I dont think that Caff is gunna offer a kid that is such a project he couldnt come in and play some minutes.

Is Olaseni good enough to play right away?

I want to make it clear that I have never watched the guy play, other than a highlight dunk from youtube when he was still in europe.

But from what I've read, he seems pretty raw, and would be a guy under most circumstances would come of the bench for maybe 10 a game as a freshman. But a center duo of Brommer and Archie is not a normal circumstance, so I would imagine he could fight for more minutes at Iowa.

They say he is raw offensively, but can play D, so I would be moderately excited about him, bu the isn't a game changer. Hubbard was the more important get.

Based on anything or are you doing your best HawkPhreek impersonation?

I am not doing my hawkphreek impression...i will be shocked if some very good basketball recruiting news does not come up tomorrow. Now with this staff, very few folks will probably ever get 100% confirmation early but some info coming my way tonight tells me good news is on the way...and it will be tomorrow.

I was pretty confident Hubbard was in the bag once the Glover visit was scrapped, but I have no clue about Olaseni. Last month he was extolling the virtues of Coach Francis, McCaffrey etc., and in the past few weeks it seems like he has been out on match.com looking for a better fit. I know McCaffrey tells these kids to go on their visits, do it their way etc., and maybe that is what he is doing. Kind of torn on this one if we have a shot at Gibson, but a bird in the hand ....

Well.... (1) Since Fran said he was signing two, (2) Gabe has few other options, (3) his coach says he is not going to Wichita State, and (4) he is announcing tomorrow, some info coming my way tonight tells me he will be a Hawk tommorrow too!

Fran wants the best guys left. If in fact we sign GO tomorrow and have a chance with Gibson I say we take the chance. Its not like we have a pg who is ready to sign soon anyways.

1) What impact will Olaseni signing have on Gibson (assuming he has some interest in Iowa)?

2) Kyan Anderson (former Providence recruit released from his LOI) already has three visits scheduled with Virginia, Texas Tech and TCU. He is a PG that seems pretty motivated to sign with somebody.

3) McCaffrey continues to indicate he is comfortable with the PG situation and believes Cartwright, Oglesby, Hubbard and Marble have good enough "handles".

McCaffrey definitely has a plan and a vision for this team, so if he feels good about the roster and wants to bank a scholie, I trust his instincts.

How much of our concern regarding Olaseni not wanting to be a Hawk has been generated by this prep school coach's self promotion? Seems like he REALLY likes to see himself quoted in the paper.

I've never thought he had a problem with Iowa. I've always thought, and stated so, that I just thought he was being thorough. I think the biggest problem, which the Guerrero non-signing exaserbated, is that people are so used to losing targets (going back to the later Davis years) that they are looking for clues as to why a kid wouldn't want to come to Iowa instead of seeing reasons why the kid would want to.

People looked at Olasenis recruitment and thought "he liked it so why doesn't he sign now?", then that moved into "he's looking to go anywhere but Iowa" or "we're just a fallback, so he can go somewhere else". All because he wanted to actually look at other places and compare? That's ridiculous.

As far as the coach, I agree, he seems to like to make a cryptic statement, then clarify later.

I fell into the trap of thinking that Olaseni was trying to find a better offer out there and if one didn't come he'd fall back to Iowa. But both Katenda and Olaseni could of been planning on announcing together today for awhile and he had Iowa as his favorite all along. I'm hoping this is going to be the case.

This is a good point. If he does end up committing to Iowa this afternoon, the only school he really looked at (besides maybe some 'mystery school') after his Iowa visit would be Oklahoma.

Somebody also brought up the point that his situation has dragged out so long because he was waiting on his good friend Katenda since they wanted to announce at a ceremony together. Which I think is very possible.

Could also be that his coach has known for a long time and just trying a little too hard to not tip Gabe's hand.
