**OFFICIAL CUBS REGULAR SEASON THREAD**

Based on twitter feeds taking Rizzo out was precautionary. After being taken out he sat in the dugout not getting any attention from the trainers, rubbing his right knee/thigh. After the inning was over he stretched his right leg and went into the clubhouse with a slight limp.

Paul Sullivan of the Tribune just tweeted that he confirmed with Theo that they are going ahead with player moves that will make the organization stronger in the future. Looks like the garage sale is about to begin.

I think Dempster will get the most attention. I don't think Epstein ever made a deal with the Yanks but it would not be surprise me to see both the Yankees and the Red Sox going after Dempster. Hopefully teams will get into a bidding war.

Clearing the bases: Concerns about Castro - SweetSpot Blog - ESPN

This article pretty much sums up my feelings on Castro right now. Can he change his approach at the plate and become a really good player, not just a good player.

This article outlines a good reason why the Cubs fired the hitting instructor yesterday.

In my Cubs vision for the future I do not need Castro hitting 3rd or 4th. I would like to see him demonstrate more patience at the plate but I do not need power from the shortstop position. Ideally I think he makes a good #2 hitter and with some extra patience at the plate, possibly a lead off hitter.

I am going to keep saying this, the guy is only 22 years old. He has plenty of room to grow and develop as a hitter/fielder.

I'm not arguing with you on that. I'm not even saying the cubs should trade Castro, but if they did for the right price I would not be mad. What I am saying is that at this moment Castro is very overrated. I hope he improves and hopefully the new hitting coach will help that. We will see. I just hope he hasn't gotten to set in his ways as a 20-year phenom that he think he can do whatever, and no he is not a 3 spot guy. 2 is his spot. Not a high enough OBP for 1.

I really hope the Blue Jays or Tigers make a strong push at Dempster. It seems they have tons of pitching depth in their system.

The only reason why Castro is overrated is because he is the best player on a really bad Cubs team. But I cannot think of more than a couple of shortstops I would take over Castro to build this team with and we don't know what position Baez ends up playing at the MLB level.

I know Theo puts a lot of value on the shortstop position. After Garciaparra left Boston he was constantly going after free agent shortstops. Unless someone proposes an unbelievable offer I think Castro is close to untouchable. Filling the shortstop position through free agency is not easy and can cost a ton of money.

Changing the subject a little:

Meet Jorge Soler*|*VFTB

How exciting is this? Soler would have been a top 5 draft pick and will be the 2nd best prospect in the Cubs system. It is comforting to know DeJesus's days playing RF in Chicago are numbered. That potential 2014 or 2015 lineup keeps getting better and better.

castro is not overated. you dont get upset over free swingers that hit 300. you get worried over free swingers that hit 250. at his age 95% of players are still in aa ball. hes got tremendous tools, is a good hitter, and is improving defensively. you dont trade 22 year old middle infielders that produce offensively. you develop them.

however the cubs still have lake and baez in the system who could both render castro expendable. ideally they all end up in the same infield with rizzo though.

When your OBP is only 12 points higher than your BA that his BAD. I'm not saying Castro is bad, but I don't think he's as elite as everyone says he is, hence overrated in my book. If he could cut down on Ks, and increase walks, or just improve his approach I'd be fine with him. I do like Castro as I think his defense has improved greatly, though it's not great yet. I'd like to see his approach at the plate change, and it may with new coaching and age, but it needs to hurry up and get there.

Not sure what to make of it right now but twitter is erupting with on site reports that Theo and Demp just had a conversation on the field during warmups and they walked off the field together. Demp on his way out?

Or maybe Theo forgot his pen and they are going to the clubhouse to ink an extension?

Just search Dempster, there are all kinds of tweets about it. But Doug Padilla with ESPN was, I think, the first reporter to tweet it.
