I'd like to put my resume in for the radio gig that would be sweet!
Hard to say about Renteria. Until we get about 15 new players we really don't know how good someone can manage.
I didn't mind Keith on the radio. I mean he wasn't nearly the homer Ron Santo was, but I thought he gave some good insight. I used to think it would be my dream job to do radio for the Cubs, but the past couple of summers would have been pretty brutal.....better than doing real work like I do today, but still brutal.

Showing my age, but I haven't regularly listened to the Cubs on the radio since Vince Lloyd and Lou Boudreau did the broadcasts. They were so good that I even listened to them when the Cubs were on TV.
Pat Hughes is one of the best in the biz in my opinion. To be able to find a way to make the game interesting even when the Cubs are so bad takes a lot of talent and he does a great job of that.

I agree, I've listened to other radio broadcast, like the Cardinals here in Des Moines, and I haven't found anyone nearly as good as Pat Hughes. Of course, I'm a Cubs homer, so that might have something to do with it.
Yep, I've listened to Royals announcers and the Cards quite a bit and they are pretty boring compared to Pat. He was absolutely a Master of handling Santo also and was so good at not trying to embarrass him when he would say something that didn't make sense. Would always turn it humorous. I enjoy his knowledge of the history of the game too. Just a professional in every sense of the word.

Not a bad move though, with Sweeney signed they really did not need Bogusevic and Ruggiano gives the Cubs some interesting platoon options as he does hit lefties well.

And that's not really even including all the kids we picked up in the international draft. Those guys are obviously long-term projects, but Theo is definitely building up the farm system to get maintained success. Work these guys into the picture and then go after a bonafide ace in FA/trade.

I am overall pretty happy with the progress of the Cubs Farm System. Not sure I have enjoyed the spend no money on the big league club losing a 100 games a year strategy but will do my best to live with.
Have some beef with the whole renovating Wrigley situation and Ricketts as a whole. Fans once showed up in droves to wrigley before he got there and only complained about the bathrooms. I know the old girl needs some updates but fans and non fans will come for the nostalgia. Why can't they drop all the hotel, mascot, and video board nonsence. Add a few night games, get a long with the community, and keep the feeling that the Cubs and Wrigley are for the people. I use to think the Cubs were my team. Now I feel like they are Tom's team and what I think does not matter.

For the people? What does that mean? If you want to put something out there for the fans, how about a winning baseball team?
I'm all for nostalgia, but there's no reason you can't renovate Wrigley and keep the old-style charm while adding much-needed upgrades to amenities.
To be blunt, this renovation is absolutely necessary if the Cubs want to be able to compete. It's a well known fact that many big-name free agents don't want to play for the Cubs because the stadium and its facilities are garbage, particularly compared to the rest of the league. This video board nonsense as you call it will provide much needed revenue to make all of this happen. No revenue, no renovation. Once these things are all done, it'll be a lot easier and more feasible to field a good team. The Cubs are currently WAY behind in the "arms race" and it has to change. It's really as simple as that.
I'd actually be ticked off if nothing was being done, so am glad to see Ricketts trying to improve the situation. Unfortunately there is no quick fix to this situation, but I think that's what most fans expect this day and age.

The new signage and jumbotron will help pay the bill and increase the cash available to spend on the team. As will the hotel etc. I'd personally love to see them leave Wrigley and just say screw you to the rooftop owners. The structure of the purchase from the tribune has also hamstrung the FO a bit on spending.

I guess i don't get this idea of lack of add revenue causing a poor baseball team. The Cubs are in the top 5 revenue generating teams in all of baseball. Other teams are doing more with less fan support and fewer dollars. The Cubs went for broke awhile back are rebuilding from those decisions which is all understandable.
Can you guys please explain with some detail or background how wrigley is holding the Cubs back. I don't know as I fully understand.
