Offensive Record?

NIL and the transfer portal change all of this. We need to adapt to the everchanging landscape and we have proven we dont. While I was happy to get the transfers we did, we missed a big opportunity at O line, obviously.

Sure, NIL and the portal change it, but Iowa still has to land guys in the portal. Everyone is looking for o-line, but Iowa will have a fraction of the powder that other teams will have. Our fanbase is small and while we have plenty of rich fans, most of that wealth is tied up in farmland.

We did get two O-Linemen from the transfer portal. One has contributed and the other hasn't seen much playing time. To O'Keefe's point, everyone is going for the top prospects out of the portal but we don't always get the top guys. Pretty sure we would welcome Proctor if he ever reached out.

There are problems in this program that could be fixed if we had someone willing to adapt. We will continue to fall behind in this new environment with this staff.

Alabama was better than Iowa that year, but Iowa could have beaten them had everything gone perfectly. That was the only time in my lifetime that I could say that with a straight face. Maybe in 2002 we could have beaten Ohio, but we would have lost to Miami and we all remember what USC did to us. Recall that the 2009 team was good enough to go into the Shoe and take Ohio to OT with a QB starting his first ever game. That was the most special team we will ever see.

But again, back in 2009 Nick ran a program that looked pretty similar to Iowa's. It wasn't until he needed an onside kick to beat Deshaun Watson and Clemson that he changed up and completely revamped his strategy. Iowa has not done any such revamp, nor could we in all likelihood, and the results speak for themselves when we go out and play loaded teams now.
You lost me saying 09 was a better team than 02.

There is, but there are a lot of factors working against almost the entire Big Ten West. First, it's in the middle of nowhere and the population centers just aren't churning guys like population centers in the south. Second, despite being in the middle of nowhere, there are a bunch of teams all vying for the same guys. Third, the population in the Midwest has been flat to down for decades and it is really starting to show. Fourth, football participation rates in the Midwest are dropping, leaving even fewer guys for the teams to fight over.

The larger states in the Big Ten East have enough critical mass and national pull to stay relevant. Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska do not.
I’d be incredibly scared to ask what your dating strategy was/is. If similar to how you set expectations for Iowa football…also, tell me you’ve never actually eaten a **** sandwich

I think teams like Iowa have to battle NIL with the big boys who want paid and a chance to win a Natty, but I think the portal actually helps teams like Iowa as it can actually spread out decent players who are looking for playing time instead of being buried on the depth charts of the southern schools and teams like Ohio St. and Michigan. I actually think the portal can provide some parity. But, the NIL added to the equation can definitely skew the lines as far as parity.

Kirk isn't some savior. He's done well but others can do as much. Lots of presumptions in what you're saying. Lots of coaches can build culture, recruit, develop, scheme and win. Watch other teams of TV. Lots of good football happening all over the country.
No one said he was a savior.

Explain for us your case that the odds are in favor of hiring a coach that will improve on 8-9 ten wins a season.

I’ll wait patiently.

Because the folks around here who want to dump a coach for thousands to one odds of improvement are mind bogglingly numerous.

Are you the type who spends a fortune every week on lottery tickets just because plenty of people have won the lottery and “there’s a chance?”

There is no bounce back this time, we’re seeing the long slow end of the Ferentz era. He basically rebuilt the program 4 times in his tenure but whenever we had those dips it was because we missed on recruits or lost stars in the draft and once young guys got better, we turned it around.

We have been terrible on offense for 5 years. If you’re keeping track at home thats an entire cycle of eligibility including red shirt year and it’s gotten worse each year.

The offense can’t be saved or turned around with this staff. The only reason we haven’t been winning 3 games a year is because the West sucks and Phil Parker is the best DC in football.

With the new teams coming in the schedule will cease being a cakewalk and if the Ferentz family is still we will be the easy win in a hurry.

Kirk sees the problems, and won't fix them?
or
Kirk sees the problems, and can't fix them?
or
Kirk does not see the problems?

'02 Iowa was better, but the competition was better as well. That Miami team was markedly better than any team in 2009, as was USC. But again, back in '09 Saban played games in a phone booth, now he doesn't, so the window for Iowa is forever closed.

You can't win if you don't play.

I don't have expectations for Iowa sports at all because expectations just lead to disappointment. I'd like to see the boys win a Rose Bowl once in my life, but that window is probably closed as well.
