Notre Dame manager dies

I'm usually pretty pragmatic about stuff like this and tend to try to look at all sides but I'm really trying to come up with a reason as to why Brian Kelly shouldn't be sh*t-canned over this.

I didn't even walk my dog yesterday b/c the wind was too strong!

And they kept practicing?!! Unbelievable.

His family will never get their son back and it's no consolation but they should get everything they ask for and demand Kelly is fired.
And whoever this kid's manager or "boss" is in the video dept. should've told the coaches to stick it up their youknowwhat.

This makes me so angry.
 
I am sick over this. Know the family and my kids know their kids. Went to HS together. The family and kids are really great people.

There are freak accidental deaths, deaths that could have been prevented and deaths from absolutely negligent actions. This is negligence pure and simple and every grown adult associated with the ND program that saw a kid up in a scissor lift trying to film in the winds we had yesterday should carry this guilt with them the rest of their lives. A five year old would have questioned the wisdom of that action. No amount of money, no number of apologies and no level of guilt is sufficient.

I didn't care for ND before but if they continued practicing after he fell they just became my most hated team.
 
If I remember my high school physics correctly, a person at the top of a ladder tipping over hits the ground at a higher speed than if they just fell from the height of the ladder. What a terrible accident.

Kelly is grossly negligent.
 
What are the odds that someone is charged with a crime before this is over with?

A young man has died. Preventable doesn't even begin to describe the accident. Someone put that kid in what was very obviously a dangerous position. Someone was criminally negligent in my opinion. I think a case could even be made for a felony, some kind of negligent manslaughter or something.

I think Kelly will be lucky if he only has to pay a lot of money.
 
While I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiments expressed it sure would be nice to be able to digest and internalize this without immediately having to deal with the blame game, the lawsuit talk, and talk of people getting canned.

This is a tragic tragic event, and I'm sure everyone involved, even those that are partially culpable, are in unimanigable pain right now. Pointing fingers is not going to help with that, and it's not going to bring this kid back.

There will be a time to discuss the legalities, both civil and criminal of this situation, but right now is not it. I find the act of finger poitning, in this instance, at this point and time completely disgusting.
 
Duff, I tend to agree that society, and especially the media, jump to the blame game far too quickly. (Last night's SouthPark said it well).

But this is just blatant disregard for his safety and an absolute lack of common sense. Dare I say also, the kid himself should have known better and come down. But ultimately one of the adult coaches is responsible for him being up there in those conditions.

I'm really really hoping the team/coaches didn't realize someone was hurt. There is no other possible explanation for their continued practice.


All I can say is it's a damn shame (again). I hope the family realizes people are praying for them.
 
And what do you think would have happened if the student had refused?.....you're right....he probably would have been fired...no win.

So you are speculating on what might have happend if he refused to go up there if Kelly was the one responsible for sending him up in the first place all so you can feel better about the situation or get personal satisfaction by saying "this is all on Kelly"?

That kinda makes you look like a dbag.

I'm in no way shape or form arguing that there isn't someone responsible for this. I'm saying the fact that the number of posts in this thread that assign blame, point fingures, or talk about lawsuits outnumber the posts expressing sorrow for the kid, his family, and anyone else remotely connected to the situation is disturbing.

Again I repeat myself, there will be plenty of time to examine what happend, to determin the responsible parties, and to punish the guilty parties (if there are any).

This hits home to my family as my brother does this for Iowa. Last night they went to Kinnick first where the video guys can go up to the boxes by the scoreboards and shoot film like a game, but they then went to the dome as it was still not safe. Not sure what Kelly was thinking. Thankfully KF is a little more considerate. They also don't let the guys go up when it is too cold. those things are horribly top heavy when they get extended to 60'. A little breeze and they are moving everywhere!

So why is sorrow the only emotion we are "allowed" to express at this time? I am certainly sorrowful, but I am also angry. I honestly don't see why assigning blame is not appropriate. It is natural to do so.

I certainly want to hear all sides of the story, but from what I know so far it seems quite obvious that the ND coaching staff, headed by Brian Kelly, was clearly negligent and foolishly and needlessly caused the death of a young man under their charge.

My heart is heavy for the yong man's family, but I am also very angery that so called intelligent and educated adults can act so recklessly and irresponsibly. I sere nothing wrong with expressing that.

Notre Dame was most definitely at fault. Maybe it was Kelly, maybe higher up but by this definition, ND is gonna get sued to the bejesus belt. Very sad situation and not only could have been avoided, SHOULD have been avoided by anyone running the situation with half a brain.

Yeah, when he told me, the first thing I said was "DON'T TELL MOM". She's a worrier, but those things don't have to go up all the way. Thankfully KF doesn't mess around with that kind of stuff.
