Noah Fant Speaks About Controversy Over Brother’s Comments

I don't envy Noah Fant in this situation at all. He's tremendously talented, he's getting so much more exposure, coaching and opportunity at his position than he might have received anywhere else. I also understand the passion by his family but they are going about it all wrong. Its unfortunate. The university gave him his full ride, developed him physically, mentally, and he's in a MUCH better place than where he'd be in Lincoln.

Id say its a lack of social etiquette and could create more trouble for him and zero good. Everyone knows nothing is going to influence the staff, especially from a player's family or social media "threat." They take it a step too far insulting the program and its past 20 yrs. You cant come back from those things after you say them. Im sure the NFL doesnt care....but.....you don't need an elephant in the room on draft day

Guess who wont be getting free ticket bundles for return visits after their son moves on. McNutt's dad still gets 4 free tickets a year.

The Fant's will have to pay their way to come back when we commemorate their son in future years. Kind of makes me chuckle a little bit.

The day a kid doesn't complain about playing time is the day I write him off. That doesn't mean spouting off in the media or going Miguel Montero half an hour after the world series. The way you complain about playing time is by making it as uncomfortable as possible for those who are taking your time. Work hard, practice hard, kill it on the scout team, push the players ahead of you. Competition for spots within the ranks only makes the whole team stronger. it I'm Kirk, I want every scholarship and walk-on athlete on that team to think they belong in the two deeps, and to be pissed off if they're not.

To be clear, this is the first time NF has spoken to the media since his family went public with their beef. It's clearly a story and the questions were fair. KF thought it was enough of a story that he mocked the counting of NF's reps after the Indiana game.

We requested NF for interviews throughout the last few weeks and he hasn't shown up. He was told to show up today and everybody knew it would be addressed.

Now, it's over. We move on and he declares for the draft after the season.

Its all going the way that it must. His family knows he's moving on as well. Enjoy his talents Hawk fans. Fortunately the cupboard isnt bare. Far from it!

It's not NF, it's his dickbag family.

Yeah, they need to keep their traps shut cause the moment they open them you know that's going to the media. And I apologise for being vague, I clearly wasn't talking about Noah and should have made it clear that it was his family, not him, going to the media. A poster claimed Fant's "family" were being Noah's parrots and I could see Noah wanting more reps for the reasons I just mentioned. But Fant seems like he's been the ultimate team player since he's been here. How can I tell? He learns from his mistakes (last year's OT drop at jNW for example) and uses them to motivate himself to get better. He comes back every season with more skills added to his game. He and Hoks are one badass combo and I look forward to watching them both at the next level for a long time.

I'll bet Penn State isn't looking forward to it.

I know very little of this controversy beyond what is in this thread.

Having said that, I think Noah should have gone further in siding with the coaches.

If Noah says the same thing when NFL general managers interview him, I would call that a red flag.

It would be a real kick in the nuts if the attention seeking antics of Fant's family ended up costing him draft positions.

However, I don't see that happening. A couple tweet exchanges aren't going to prevent a team that wants him from taking him. They aren't going to risk a division rival drafting hm instead. No way.

We all know that NF feels the same sentiment as his family, but he’s classy enough not to throw coaches and teammates under the bus. We also know that he’s gone come this winter, and with Hockenson coming up (who I think is better, btw), it’s probably good for the goose and the gander because he won’t want to be here anymore anyway. It’ll be a “thanks for the memories; see ya on the flip side” thing similar to Josh Jackson.

Guys like Fant and Jackson, as great of Hawks as they are, don’t have the same attachments to the program and fans as guys like Josey Jewell, Bob Sanders, Desmond King, Mike Daniels, Angerer, etc...guys who contribute 3-4 solid years and go down in our memories as real, blood and guts Hawkeyes.

The Fant and Jackson types are pleasant surprises who go nuts for two years and bolt. Can’t blame ‘em and fans truly appreciate the time they we’re here, but they just don’t have that same attachment. I feel like Noah is one of those guys. He knows what he wants, and Iowa just happens to be his stepping stone to get there. Mutually beneficial, but if his family is going to be a distraction and put junk in his head anyway, time to jump.

I wonder what his dad will say when it's the 3rd round and Noah still hasn't been drafted.
I don't know but we had a poster on this board last spring who hinted that Kirk may have leaked certain things about Wadley's character in his early years at Iowa to NFL folks and speculated it was a big reason why he didn't get drafted.

I think that's a bit overplayed. Unless a guy's really a problem the NFL wants talent. (no shortage of examples). and "early years"?... lots of guy come in young and grow up like Wadley did. The "poster" was probably just speculating to rationalize his disappointment that Wad wasn't drafted.

Wadley got a shot with the Titans and wasn't good enough to make the roster. Unfortunate but that's how it is.

I don't believe for a second that Kirk would say anything negative about his guys to the NFL. The only negative he would say is referenced by what he wouldn't say. Scout's question: "Is Noah Fant a great team player?" Kirk's answer: "He has great family support behind him."

Because then nothing negative was said about Fant, but the point was given. Kirk is way to classy to cut down any of his players, he wants them all to succeed in life.

Well given his family has never done what he has done, I would say he (and them) are in uncharted waters.
Might do best not to forget who brought you to the dance and listen to them.
I get respect for older family, but when they are just shooting off at the mouth about things they don't know about (playing college or NFL ball, or coaching, or drafts),....... Well their opinion means less than Noahs at that point. Idc if they are older.
