No poll movement?

Iowa is not good, just lucky says everyone....
Being down most of the games to three teams you should beat on paper and needing buzzer beaters to win two of ‘em will do that to ya.

Lest some of you say I’m being Debbie Downer, I’m not. I’m actually pumped about how things are going and the other night was the most fun my 12 year old and o have ever had watching a basketball game. Shit like that is what will make him a miserable ass fan like myself when he grows up.

But there is a reason we stay put in the polls.

I think the NW game was the killer here. Roadies are tough to come by so I don't think the buttgers squeaker did it.

We get past MD and Indy this week (big if), and it will be a strong ride up for next Monday.

Struggled to beat a terrible NW team at home...survived a trip to Rutgers, a .500 team, with a miracle last second shot...it's not unexpected that people are skeptical. Our defensive numbers still suck too. That being said...we aren't getting alot of credit for a solid victory against Michigan and a road win at Indiana after they had just beaten MSU.

Honestly...this league is so tough every night...I think they should get more credit just for winning a road game in this league. Just keep winning the ranking will take care of itself.

How the hell is Iowa State ranked above Iowa?
Kenpom - ISU, 13 - Iowa 25

Sagarin - ISU, 12 - Iowa 31

NET - ISU, 13 - Iowa 28

The question you should be asking is why would Iowa be ranked ahead of ISU?

I hate the clowns as much as anyone, but those ratings are all stats-based, unbiased, and objective. They measure slightly different things, but the fact that they are all that close and consistent with each other means they’re statistically rigorous (in relation to each other). And the fact that ISU and Iowa are so far apart means that there’s really no debate about which team is better.

If the teams were, say, two or three spots apart or maybe Iowa was ahead in two models but not the third I could see an argument being made, but whether we like it or not these rankings are a legit way of measuring teams’ abilities. NCAA football could learn a lesson or three, but I digress...

Hurts to say but Iowa State is a better team.

Penn State beating Michigan wasn’t super awesome either.

We will get our chance to show where we should be ranked. Obviously, the higher a team is ranked, the more difficult it is to keep climbing.

Illinois' is battling Wisconsin tooth and nail as I post. Cheap shot Davison is at it again. There was no reason to kick his legs out like that other than to get Frazier to roll his ankle. John Stockton was a master of what Davison just did.

We've got a better resume against the kenpom top 100 than most everyone outside the top 10. Both in number of games and winning percentage.

I don't think that's being a Debbie Downer, it's just the truth. I didn't expect to move up, because we haven't proven that we're better than #20 (or whatever it is). I, like you, am enjoying the ride.

Rankings are all window dressing and (self-appointed) pundit talking fodder.

Means very little. The NCAA seedings mean everything.

(Sounds a lot like the FB polls before the playoff seedings eh?)

Is agree with you on the AP and Coaches polls.

I think the Kenpom/Sagarin/NET are pretty legit.

Who are you going to drop in a scenario that Iowa should be higher? I'm not saying your wrong, but winning all your games doesn't automatically mean you're moving up. The Net rankings are all that matters now anyway and Iowa is currently at 28 - so a 7 seed. In fact, the polls like Iowa better than the actual rankings that matter do. If Iowa takes care of business tonight, they are likely to see a nice bump in the NET.

Since beating Michigan they have played Indiana, Rutgers, and Northwestern. None of these teams are even in the top half of the Big Ten. Beyond that game Iowa had the "easiest" schedule in the conference left. Hard to build your ranking when you aren't playing anyone of consequence. If they win out the ranking will take care of itself. If they lose one more and beat either Maryland or Wisconsin the ranking will take care of itself. I like their chances to accomplish one of those two scenarios. Lets just let the season play out before we worry about rankings.

It’s really how you do in the tournament that really matters. Get to the round of eight and then your getting people’s attention. That’s what people will remember. Sweet sixteen not so much, but the round of eight catches most fans attention as you are one win away from the final four.

Ranking only really matter in determining seed which could make your pathway easier but once you get to the sweet sixteen it really doesn’t matter at that point. Everyone is good at that point. Get to the next round after the sweet sixteen, then people are taking notice.

Who really takes note of the sweet sixteen teams other than the fans of the teams in question. Get knocked out at that point and no one remembers you except the fans of the ream that beat you to make it to the round of eight.
