No Big Ten Teams Ranked

I should have stated that the perception was that the B1G was highly competitive. You are correct that this isn't new but now there is a CLEAR difference in public opinion, not just regionally between the two, but everywhere, even in B1G-land. The SEC holds every single built in competitive advantage, they're now exploiting those like never before, thanks in large part to the active perception campaign they've raged unchecked by the B1G or anyone else for a decade now.

I've been an Iowa fan and a B1G fan for my entire life but if I were a 18yr old football player with offers from the SEC, I'd probably go there. Kids want to play for the best and the SEC is clearly the best.

All this adds up to a marginalized B1G moving forward. Jim Delany knew this and this is why he fought so long to keep the status quo. When he signed off on the playoff, he waved the white flag.

Ok, but if you replace the SEC with Washington, USC and Miami (Fl) people were saying the same thing in the 80's. The Big Ten getting its *** handed to it in the Rose Bowl was an 80's tradition. And people didn't stop watching the B10 then, so I don't get why people would stop watching now? Attendance at B10 games has done nothing but rise since then, there's really nothing to back up your theory that people will stop watching the B10.

My kids only watch the B1G if Iowa is playing. They prefer the SEC. I wish it weren't true but it is. I give them grief about it & they just tell me the SEC is better, they like it better. I hardly think I'm alone. And it doesn't matter one bit if its true or not because its their perception and perception is reality. I guess what I'm saying is that its going to be a progression. A generation probably, but the B1G is in trouble.

no way that kids would prefer the current frontrunner? shocking.

It's gonna take a LONG time of B1G struggling severely to be in "trouble"

So you're basing you're "people will stop watching the B10" on a sample size of your kids? OK...

Well like everyone knows what your kids do is the median opinion of the entire country.

B1G is down this year, but lets not overreact. FWIW Ohio State would be a national title contender if they weren’t under sanctions.
SEC = Pac12
Completely underwhelmed watching Florida-LSU last week.

The B1G is "down" every year.
That's the point. But everything is just fine. Its not like the SEC has won 6 titles in a row with 4 different teams or anything like that.

There was a much longer drought before OSU won in '02. How did the B10 do during that period?

sigh
I'm not saying that no one will watch and that all the B1G stadiums are just all of a sudden going to be completely empty. I am saying that over time, and its happening now, people will accept that its an inferior product and that will eventually lead to lower attendance and TV ratings and therefore $. Its no different than when a team has a crappy year(s), their ratings/attendance suffer. Notre Dame has been the target of these discussions on this very board. People are acting like this just can't happen because "we're the B1G". That kind of smugness has been part of the problem with the B1G all along. If this league continues to string together year after year after year of ineptitude and rarely places teams in the playoff it will lead to these types of issues. That's just a fact. I hope it doesn't continue but the overwhelming evidence says it will.

But it's not happening. B10 Attendance continues to rise, B10 teams continue to expand stadiums, B10 TV deals continue to increase in value. All the while, as I've shown, the B10 is not any less competitive than it was going back 30 years ago in the 80's. You've made up a theory in your own mind, with no actual evidence to support it, and have convinced yourself that it's a fact. The B10 will be perfectly fine going forward.

Jim, is that you?
