NIT Chances

so I was trying to find our NIT chances and googled it and found this website. They don't even have us on the bubble. That can't be right. Anyone know of any other sites to check out?

NIT-ology

Today's NIT is not what it used to be. If you are a mid-major regular season conference champ and your bubble pops in your tournament, you have a spot in the NIT. So the more chalk that wins their tourney's, the more at large NIT bids are available. Iowa needs to win these last two games and its first round B1G tourney game and I think they get an NIT bid. If not, probably one of the other ones.

Well he does have 3 NCAA bubble teams from the B1G in the NIT, it is unlikely the B1G gets 4 teams into the NIT. Secondly Iowa's RPI is still way to high for anyone to be considering Iowa for the NIT and the next 2 games are huge for Iowa's chances. A 17 win Iowa team gets them on the NIT bubble, an 18 win Iowa team gets them in for sure. The other factors that help Iowa is NW getting into the NCAA tournament and few upsets in the mid major tournaments. The more at large bids available the better for Iowa's chances.

This is a tough one, because Iowa needs to beat NW, which will kill NW's chances of getting into the NCAAs (barring them winning the BTT).

Iowa is on the NIT bubble w/ 2 wins (maybe in).
3 wins and I think they are locked to an NIT. 18 wins (10 of the them in the best conf in the nation). If not locked, very close to being in.

Iowa would need to reel off 5 wins to get back on the NCAA bubble. Still might not be enough.

Let's not forget it's been 5 years since Iowa has won 3 Big Ten games in a row. They haven't won 5 games in a row in Big Ten play since 2006 as well. They won 5 in a row in 2005 as well.

Tourneys love hot teams. Iowa would need to win a bunch in a row. Easier said than done.

Not necessarily, if they figure out a way to beat Ohio State at home on Wednesday I think they would be a lock. Remember they have already beaten Michigan State at home and came close to taking down Michigan so beating tOSU is not out of the question. But if they lose Wednesday then I agree they will have to beat Iowa for any chance at a bid.

NIT???? NCAA baby! We are hot now with two very weak teams to play this week. We win out and make a deep run in the BIG and we are NCAA bound.

Preaaaattty weak team overall, yes.

Weak? No. Between Shurna and Crawford, they have some scoring threats.

Their wins over decent LSU and Seton Hall teams, plus a victory over Michigan State demonstrate a fairly high ceiling. They also have no bad losses. They are a solid bubble team.

If you call a 43 ranked rpi team "preaaaattty weak," the I suppose you're right. I, however, don't. 43 is higher than Kansas State, Texas, VCU, Washington, Cincinnati and Arizona

Quality Wins: Michigan State.... and.... Seton Hall?

Tulsa is a better win than LSU.

Only one win over the Top 50.

Not a very strong team resume-wise or on the court.

The site you referenced has NW'ss rpi as 43, too - click on "switch to rpi rankings."

And yes, Tulsa is another decent win, but LSU is definitely better.

Look - I didn't say that they're Kentucky - I said that they're not a weak team...and they aren't. Who have they lost to that they shouldn't have? Nobody. Who have they beaten? Michigan State. What's their strength of schedule? 12th.

Not a great team. But not "weak." Northwestern is a fair to middling basketball team.

I can't believe people are still bringing up the NCAA tournament.

Harp on RPI being flawed all you want, the bottom line is the committee uses it and Iowa is 130th. Even making it to the BIG championship we won't crack 100. Our OOC SOS is a joke and our conference schedule is the easiest in the BIG (only team to play OSU and MSU only once).

The bad losses cancel out the good wins. So please...stop putting false hope into people saying Iowa can still get an at large. It's not happening.
