next yrs bball team...what i think it will look like

the reason i come back to gessell at the point and marble on the wing is that it gives us 2 pg types on the court and will allow us a better rotation which i believe is still the main place we are lacking this year. plus with how great marble is doing i think he would do better at the wing. also i love white as a 6 man. he brings the energy off the bench that i thought may could have brought off the bench if he didnt start. and white brings it to both sides of the ball off the bench where may doesnt. i just think it is what would be our best lineup. if gessell would struggle next yr i see marble shifting over again. but i think gessell will be frosh all b1g next yr so i think he starts from day 1. woodbury i believe earns the starting role by big ten conference play. next year we will be 3-4 deep at every position.

what is bugging me is i said what i thought deficiencies are for each player and my opinion on one player has made people mad when i have actually seen the kid. and ive seen enough to say he will start but he needs to get better at the one thing almost every hs pg needs to get better at in college. gessell will have a better year than horner frosh yr take that to the bank. but i am not a true hawkeye fan according to other posters. i cant wait to see them win a bunch and score a bunch next yr. i think gessell will allow marble to average 17 pts a game next year. maybe that is high but that is how good i think marble can be from the wing with a very good pg.

this is a good post. the thing to remember is that marble can do what he is doing this year from the 3 instead of the PG position. marble is right now doing exactly what we need our SF to do (creating shots, getting to line, getting out on break, etc), he just happens to be playing PG out of need. put gesell in the lineup and you have 2 guys who can handle as well as get their own shot.

white is an ideal spark off the bench, and you want oglesby on the floor 20-25 minutes per game because woodbury is an EXCEPTIONAL passer and he will find shooters for open looks all day. SCE does not have good guards (that may be generous) so its tough to judge woody on his high school play.

gesell is not the defender craft is, but not many guys are. gesell isnt a pure shooter but he is better than craft and will be a better scorer even if all other things were equal. the thing is that gesell is completely comfortable off the ball as well so if we need a defensive minded team on the floor we can have some combo of Clemmons, Ingram, Marble, and Gesell on the floor together down the road.

so because i don't follow like a blind lemming over the cliff my post are drivel
and yet yours are all knowing
White will start at the three next year
that leaves Marble at the 2
the quality of the players around a pg makes him look good as there is less pressure on him
until he mention Craft i knew very little and still no nothing about him

i accept your opinion i just am saying mine. from what i have seen this is what i think will happen. you have yours i have mine and it looks like that is where we will have to leave it. but when craft came out all people talked about was his defense. gessell they talk about offense and what ive seen it is accurate. but like i said he will be very good. i dont like being called a basher because i stated many good things he will do for us and 1 point of improvement i saw.

not so sure i understand all the love for Oglesby, he remind me of Gatens his Freshman year
he can shoot but is to wild with some of his passes
with Marbles ability to play the 1, 2, and 3, in my opinion he can be more effective for the team at the 2,
White is progressing nicely, right now the word on him as to why he is not starting his stamina is not up to speed to where he can maintain a 25-30 minutes of playing time per game
with a lineup of

Gesell 6'2
Marble 6'6
White 6'8
Basabe6'7
Woodbury7'1
give you a good mixture of ball handlers, shooters and muscle in the paint
coming off the bench you have

Clemmons 6'1
Oglesby 6'5/ Ingram 6'3
May 6'5
McCabe 6'7/ Meyer 6'10
Olaseni 6'10

that would also you a hockey like shift in players off the bench

and depending upon Olaseni's improvement between now and next fall you could even see him start, one other thing on Olaseni and Meyer depending upon where you go they are listed at 6'11
if you want to look down the road you could see a starting 5 look like this
Gesell 6'2
Ogelsby 6'5
White 6'8
Meyer 6'10
Woodbury 7'1
with who ever the Hawks get in the 2013 & 2014 classes the days of being in the cellar are gone

i like oglesby because even though he is another version of gatens he isn't expected to be the #1 scorer like gatens. gatens and oglesby now can be complimentary pieces because of marble and basabe stepping up. the length of the upcoming seasons is going to be great no matter what the lineups are.

I am glad to see some mention of Meyer. I think he is being lost in the excitement over the two star recruits next year. He grades out at 89 on espn and ranked 28th best center in nation. For reference, Marble, Basabe, White all graded out at 89. Just from a numbers standpoint i think he will be able to contribute immediately also. Could be very interesting I hear he can run the floor well also. Could see some 4 out of him. Gesell, Marble, Basabe, Meyer, Woodbury. Team is going to finally have flexibility to go big or small depending on opponents weakness. Pretty exciting. I wish Kyle was closer so we had more info on him. I know Mr. Davis had some deep teams, I can not remember any team that will have the talent from top to bottom this team will have in a couple years.

Could you imagine how excited we would be over Matt if he was a freshman right now and played 4 years at the 2. However, I think Oglesby has a more pure outside shot, moves better without the ball, and finishes a little better around the rim. I think Josh will have more upside. We'll see maybe not. I think Josh will excel at knowing his role and will have the luxury of not being forced out of it. We are going to see some big games out of him in the future.

Fran recruited Meyer to be a 4 to help combat mismatches by other teams
twin Towers
Woodbury 7'1
Meyer 6'10 or 6'11
either way it is a tall front court

Totally agree, Josh has allot more upside to his game.

He is a more natural basketball player. He gets spacing better, moves better, handles better and passes better. He just sees and feels whats going on around him better, not to mention shoots better too.

Gatens hustles his but off and is a very mechanically sound player but he just doesn't seem to have the natural instincts of what to do and when.

It is so easy to get tangled up in the web. I am sure I will get a broken sentence or three bashing me, but oh well.

At times is difficult for me not to comment most of the time because it is amazing some of the things that written.

"Discussions"/arguments with poster in question are one way streets and not worth it.

Best just to ignore.

The radio pre-game last night mentioned that Meyer is currently averaging 25pts/gm and I believe I saw somewhere else that he is now closer to 235 vs 225 so he can't get here soon enough in my mind. I just hope he has better court awareness on defense than what I have seen thus far from the current low-post units.
