the reason i come back to gessell at the point and marble on the wing is that it gives us 2 pg types on the court and will allow us a better rotation which i believe is still the main place we are lacking this year. plus with how great marble is doing i think he would do better at the wing. also i love white as a 6 man. he brings the energy off the bench that i thought may could have brought off the bench if he didnt start. and white brings it to both sides of the ball off the bench where may doesnt. i just think it is what would be our best lineup. if gessell would struggle next yr i see marble shifting over again. but i think gessell will be frosh all b1g next yr so i think he starts from day 1. woodbury i believe earns the starting role by big ten conference play. next year we will be 3-4 deep at every position.
what is bugging me is i said what i thought deficiencies are for each player and my opinion on one player has made people mad when i have actually seen the kid. and ive seen enough to say he will start but he needs to get better at the one thing almost every hs pg needs to get better at in college. gessell will have a better year than horner frosh yr take that to the bank. but i am not a true hawkeye fan according to other posters. i cant wait to see them win a bunch and score a bunch next yr. i think gessell will allow marble to average 17 pts a game next year. maybe that is high but that is how good i think marble can be from the wing with a very good pg.
this is a good post. the thing to remember is that marble can do what he is doing this year from the 3 instead of the PG position. marble is right now doing exactly what we need our SF to do (creating shots, getting to line, getting out on break, etc), he just happens to be playing PG out of need. put gesell in the lineup and you have 2 guys who can handle as well as get their own shot.
white is an ideal spark off the bench, and you want oglesby on the floor 20-25 minutes per game because woodbury is an EXCEPTIONAL passer and he will find shooters for open looks all day. SCE does not have good guards (that may be generous) so its tough to judge woody on his high school play.
gesell is not the defender craft is, but not many guys are. gesell isnt a pure shooter but he is better than craft and will be a better scorer even if all other things were equal. the thing is that gesell is completely comfortable off the ball as well so if we need a defensive minded team on the floor we can have some combo of Clemmons, Ingram, Marble, and Gesell on the floor together down the road.
