next yrs bball team...what i think it will look like

Looks good........on paper. You also didn't mention any of the issues these players have except for Gesel and the D, which I have never heard before. Every freshman is going to struggle on D no matter what they were in high school (except a few of the elite incoming freshman). With the 2 incoming frosh and Oglesby you don't have much experience and a lot of whiteness.

Its too early to say (until this year is over) but I think if I am being realistic and had to bet I would say the win total will decline or stay the same from this year. I see a lot of potential, but not much of it coming to fruition next year. The year after could be the year to look for that big jump record-wise.

Come on dude.

there's that WHITE players can't play theme again
that is worst reverse racism i have ever heard
for years Duke has been predominately WHITE in nature and seem to do just fine
the best player Indiana had coming in is WHITE
face it you comment abour Gesell and Oglesby being too WHITE gets old
they are above average players that will get better each year
also Gesell is about to do somethin no other player in Nebraska BB history as don and that is barring injury get awarded the Gatorade player of the year. 3 straight in a row
Not even Andre Woolridge did that and he is one of the best pts Iowa had
Clemmons is rated the #1 pg in the state of Michigan
with the #1 overall player on his team a MSU committ

I would guess White or McCabe would start over Woodbury. But 'starting' in college basketball is one of the more useless titles.

McCabe starting over Woodbury? I'm surprised you think that. I think Woodbury starts from the day he sets foot on campus. He will have a major impact on our entire defense right away.

I agree with the original poster's starting five. Next year's team won't be great, the pieces will be coming together to make a run at the tournament the year after.

Gesell (4 star point)
Josh O (top 150 SG)
Marble (late bloomer, good on both ends of the court)
Basabe (when he is right, great rebounder and garbage man)
Woody (4 star center)

They are young at two key positions, so they'll take their lumps, but I really like the trajectory of the program.

Iowa's incoming class is better than the returnees except for Marble, Basabe, White and Oglesby.

Meyer is an upgrade and undervalued at this point, he plays on a loaded AAU team and is getting comfortable with his body, he is a similar type player to Cody Zeller, just wasn't as good young. I like this kid a lot, not saying he is going to be Zeller, just a similar type player, can do a lot of everything.

Here are my two deeps:
PG: Gesell, Clemmons
SG: Ogelsby, Ingram
SF: Marble, White
PF: Basabe, Meyer
C: Woodbury, Olaseni

Iowa's youth is the future, I do think there is a role there for McCabe, especially early as Woodbury/Meyer come into playing college ball. McCabe does some nice things, but he does some things that make me shake my head. He will be a key role player with his experience and overall skills. He may surprise me and be able to backup Basabe and do well. If that is the case then Meyer's role may lessen, but I would be hard pressed to see Meyer not get a lot of playing time.

The roster for next season is complete, although, Iowa does still need a couple players in the mold of Marble who can play a few positions. Iowa has a ton of length and a lot more athleticism in the coming year.

Iowa to the NIT at worst. The BIG will be even tougher next season, so the non-conference will be key to postseason play.

the thing i am liking most is the versatility we are showing. we can run a 3 guard 2 post or a 4 guard 1 post and still be able to match up. this is why white has been so important because when he is in with basabe it is basically a 4 guard as he ends up on the wing slashing. next year i think we will do even more of that to teams...dictate match ups. under alford and lick we didnt match up to other teams well. with what we have and are getting teams will have to match up to us which is the sign of a good team.

as for record next year. we will be young same record as this year. or we are young and naive and we win some games and get rolling because we dont know we are supposed to lose. my key will be when gessell and company are sophs. that is when i believe we should make our big comeback to the ncaa tourney.

I disagree for two reasons Marble and Basabe. These two can carry a team as the youth breaks in. The youth is going to give Iowa what they don't have as they are learning. As juniors they will have enough experience and with the newcomers the holes are filled. Marble/Basabe can't carry a team full of holes like this year's squad.

i hope i am wrong about the record next year but a frosh pg and a frosh center means the two hardest positions for frosh to play as starters are likely to be manned by frosh for us. top 150 or whatever doesnt mean anything to the other players they will have to prove it. hope they can and think they can just think they will need 1 year before it really solidifies.

As Jon said, starting in college basketball doesn't necessarily say much. For instance, McCabe was in the starting lineup the other day. He played 11 minutes (without getting into major foul trouble). White, his "backup," played 27 minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Woodbury doesn't start right away. And honestly, I think that could be a good thing.

Starting in the NBA is not important either. Keith Boggans started for a very good Bulls team last year and did not play many minutes at all.

Coaches will lots of times decide to start players based on what groups of players make up the best rotation. You often see "starters" not end up playing as many minutes as bench guys.

I really don't worry about a starting line up. It is pretty overrated.

and now Bogans has no job ha

Not so fast my friends, couple of points to ponder:

1. If Woodbury stays for 4 yrs he will go down as one of the best centers in Hawk history but it will not happen over night, right now Olasani is developing and practicing against better competition, it would not surprise me to see him starting at center and bringing Adam along slowly.

2. It is awesome to finally get excited about Hawkeye BB recruits but Gessel, Ingram, Meyer, and Simmons will need time to adjust to the college game.

Adam Woodbury is better than every big guy on our team right now. He would start today if he was on the team. I agree that starting isn't a huge deal but I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn't start next season's opener. Fran isn't going to bring him along slowly, he's not a project, he will improve as his career goes on, but, and I know this is something he haven't been able to say about most Iowa recruits over the last five years, he's coming into the program as a B10 caliber player.

you know the old saying "practice makes perfect"
well next year they will be able to have this type of practice

1 Gessell vs Clemmons
2 Marble vs Oglesby
3 May vs White
4 Basabe vs McCabe
5 Olaseni vs Woodbury
with Ingram and Meyer as 6th men for each team with Walk-on to fill in

now please refresh my memory when was the last time we ever had that kind of roster
