Next year's Starting 5

PG - MG
SG - PJ
F - JU
F - DU
C - AW

JU will be next year's Aaron White. PJ will be the 2nd offensive option.
DU will grow exponentially and will astound next year.
MG will actually win games and will take a couple of games on his shoulders.
Hard to say about Clemmons. Maybe a third shooting option, but he's a turnover machine waiting to happen.

I have no idea about the bench.

AW....dunno....I think he's going to be almost a non-factor with no GO to back him up when he picks up dumb fouls. No strength, no comfortable shot from anywhere on the court, marginal rebounder at best. Not expecting much. Actually hoping he's not a liability.

Team will go as far as AW develops. Yikes.

I think it will be Clemons for Uhl.
Agreed. If the season started tomorrow, the starting 5 would have to be:
Woody, Uthoff, Jok, Sapp, MG
It makes a nice 4-out, 1-in type of team that I think Fran is heading towards.
Too bad TD left. He and Uhl could have completed a nice top 7.
As it is, Uhl is the most likely to break into the above starting 5, if he continues to develop over the summer. So, to that extent, I agree with the OP.
But with all the athletic frosh coming in, I expect at least one of them to make an impact as well.
Plus, there is the player yet to be named- perhaps Dale Jones? He could affect starting/rotation predictions too.

Clemmons has to be in there if it's the lineup that we'd go with if we played tomorrow. He had a 1.7 A/TO ratio, which isn't terrible, and he's a good defender capable of providing an offensive spark at times. When he's got his feet set on the perimeter and puts up a three, rarely do I think it's not going to fall. He's very consistent from long range when he's got a solid base under him.

Jok played some good offensive ball this year. That said, he played 15 mins vs the Zags b/c he was worse than atrocious on defense. I see Clemmons staying in his coming off the bench role. I think our team knew their respective roles better than last year. That's one of the reasons why I said early on that this team was better than last. Go Hawks!

MG
PJ
JU
?? Dom (needs to add weight/strength) / frosh ??
AW - I'm actually a pretty big fan of Woody. He will continue to improve. Depth here terrifies me.

Woodbury, Uthoff, Uhl, Jok, Gesell

I think you leave Clemmons as the 6th man because of his versatility. He can come in for either Uhl and push Jok to the 3 or come in for Jok and play the 2. Jok could then come back in a few minutes later for Mike and push Clemmons to the PG.

Simply for depth purposes you can't start both MG and Sapp. While I like the idea of them together, it just won't work. Somebody's gotta spill MG. Sapp has to be most improved player on the team this year BTW. He was MILES ahead of where he was last year...even early this year!

He has started every game for 3 years..I would love to see some improvement but not counting on anything.

You can start them both, just need to stagger the substitutions. Get Sapp out at the under 16 and bring him back in at the under 12 as the pg. It hasn't worked before because teams don't respect Clemmons' shooting enough and with MG incapable of making 3's, it really limits the offense. If Clemmons can become a better outside shooter, it could work.

Clemmons TO per minute played is lower than MG.

I think that the starting lineup at the beginning will be Gesell, Jok, Uthoff, Uhl, and Woodbury. Jok still has a lot to prove or he'll lose his spot to Fleming or Moss. I would not be surprised if Wagner comes in and has a similar impact to Basabe right away and starts at some point. At the end of the year, I think our rotation will look something like this(not factoring in last scholly).

1- Gesell
2- Fleming
3- Uthoff
4- Uhl
5- Woodbury

6- Clemmons
7- Jok
8- Wagner
9- Moss
10- Baer
11- Ellingson
Redshirts- Williams, Hutton

If Peter Jok isn't starting from day one until day last day of the season he either got booted off the team or his foot is in a boot.

Absolutely Peter Jok needs to start. Jok has to take a huge leap next year. He'll be a junior with a good number of starts under his belt. He's one of the only experienced players Iowa has that is a true threat to hit the outside shot. He needs to use that to his advantage and attack the basket more where he can hopefully finish or drop it to a guy under the basket.

FG% - 35.8%
3FG% - 34.3%
RPG - 2.6
APG - 1.3
TPG - 1.3

So we have a player that shoots a low percentage on both 2's and 3's, struggles to beat players off the bounce, is below average rebounding wise, is sloppy with the ball at times, and makes mistakes defensively. How exactly is he irreplaceable?

There is no doubt that Peter could definitely improve, but if he doesn't get any better and one of the freshman impress he could be benched.

I think jok will improve next year but one thing puzzles me. I have never seen him dunk. Has any one seen him dunk? It almost looks like he is hesitant to jump off of one leg. I hope it isn't related to his prior knee probems.

I've noticed that too. Not that it's a must but for a player who is 6'-6" who seems to have decent athleticism you'd think he'd throw it down every now and then. I've seen him get up high enough before when he's at the rim but had no intentions of dunking it. I'm guessing the knee stuff has a lot to do with it. As long as he can get over his mental hurdles on defense and keep gaining confidence in attacking the basket he can still be a really good player.

DaggNabit Hawkeyez10; I wanted to start this thread........good job/

I'm hoping to see this, next October/November:

1- Mikey 2-Sapp 3-Peter Jok 4- Ute 5- Woody

6- Fleming
7- Uhl
8- Baer/Hutton
9- JC transfer Power forward
10- Ellingson

Ok, who'd I forget?
