next years expectations

Losing Matt hurts and don't discount the loss of his defensive knowledge and skills. However, having a true center in the line-up should create more space and offensive opportunities for McCabe, who is a pretty fair shooter. Aaron should see an increase in production as he becomes more of a key to the team.

As good as Gesell is, I'm not sure he's going to be the best PG on the team. Could be very interesting competition for the starting point position.

Gatens is averaging 15.8 ppg, OMG better forget next season how can Iowa possibly make up 15.8 ppg, Gatens has scored 30 or more point in what 2 games? so that makes him irreplaceable?

i get so tired of people hating on gatens,
people that do that dont have no idea on how great a player he is,
herby always has to be a hater and hate on gatens,
great hawkeye and all he gets is to be hated on by herby,
we dont have our last 2 victories without gatens,
herby is a hater

the biggest loss is Gatens at 16 ppg and his senior leadership,
this team will have 6 of the top 8 scorers back, Marble 11.1 ppg, White 10.3 ppg, Basabe 8.0 ppg, McCabe 7.5 ppg, Oglesby 6.2 ppg and May 5.2 ppg, with losing Cartwright 5.9 ppg, in the 7th spot, nobody else avg's 2 or more.
how close were we to a 20+ season, if Iowa had beat Cambell, Clemson and UNI they would have been 11-2 OOC which would moved the total to 18-11, them if they get home wins over Purdue and Nebraska, with the road win at PSU that most consider bad losses, that would change it to 21-8 and 10-6 in CP with 2 to go.
most people on this board and other boards consider these to be bad losses,
that's how close:
now we look at next season, there is no reason not to expect Gesell to come in and perform at a high level, unless people are going to say only freshmen can come into a Michigan type school can do so, and Iowa can only expect freshmen to need a year to adjust, same with Woodbury. he was awarded the NBA top 100 mvp and is a true center and a borderline Top 50 player, i would expect him to be able to handle the rigors of College, Leonard came in as a 215 lb stick, Woody is coming in as a 245 lb'r, even Zeller is 225 lbs, to discount him is unfair to the kid.
then you add in the returning players no reason not to expect a 20+ win season would not be that unrealistic. with a solid rotation of 2 players at each position and 2 extras to cover 2 position or the real possiblility of a player being RS. the expectation of 20+ wins and a NCAA bid in my opinion should be expected

If this is as accurate as your recap of the OSU/Wisconsin game from Sunday then we are screwed.

Losing Gatens will hurt, no doubt. But we have some good players coming back, and a nice recruiting class coming in, albeit still freshmen. I guess I expect next year's team to be somewhere in the territory of NIT, or an NCAA bubble team. It's really too hard to say without seeing anyone from the new recruiting class yet, though, or knowing how much the returning players will improve in the off-season. Get back to me on about 11/30/12 and I'll have a better feel for next year's team.

don't wanna be a downer, but all it would take is a preseason injury to either MG or AW, and all these predictions would fail. Let's not put so much pressure on them. These are just young men.

Agreed, HUUURBY feels the need to bash Gatens after the best games of his career, and is just sad. He just comes in here trying to get a rise out of people, saying that any old Freshman can step in and replace our 4 year stud starter. Maybe you'd be more happy if Fran was like your guy Fred, HUUURB, and just got some guy out of the Story County Pen to come and score 15ppg, since apparently anyone can do it.

You make me sick.

I have liked the flashes that Oglesby has shown this year. If he works as hard as Gatens obviously has the last two years, no reason he shouldn't be able to be the guy running through screens next year and after.

Nice thing about next year is we should be able to use the paint to open the three ball up! Just the threat of a 7 footer underneath will open up the three with a help defense.

Losing Gatens will hurt, but I do believe the improvement of Basabe, White, Mccabe, Marble, and Ogelsby alone will make up for it. On top of that, Woodbury, Gesell, Ingram and gang will be an improvement over Archie, Brommer, and BC no matter which way you slice it.

The key next year will be who can step up and fill the role of outside shooter and if Gesell can take over the point guard spot. They will be young, have a deep bench, and it will be the most talented team at Iowa since some of the Alford teams. I see them as an NIT team for sure and with a few breaks and good player development they could be a team that makes it to the NCAA tournament.

you have to be the biggest fool on here, you twist it to suit your feelings.
notice i said senior leadership as a big loss,
points and stats can be replaced. i have never once put Gatens down in fact when you and other said he wouldn't even start for anyother BT team i called you a idiot then as well as the others, {and no I am not going bach 4-5 months or so to find your quote}.
again his senior leadership will be the biggest loss.
since you claim to be sick go stick your head in a toilet and flush

as to Gesell starting my expectation for him are to replace Cartwright and his #'s nothing more;
5.9 ppg
1.8 rpg
4.1 apg
.8 spg
and hopefully not turn the ball over as much at 2.3 TO's pg
boy those sure are monster expectation for a Top 100 kid who is rated higher than Burke was 90th to Gesell at 84th

senior leadership is the hardest thing to get over, even Coles senior leadership loss was felt
so get over yourself and your high esteem you have and GFYS

Oh sure, you make up lies when you get called out for your crap. You know darn well you said Gatens was a rebounding liability and needed to be on the bench when facing athletic guards. Then you get mad at me for pointing it out. Pathetic.

Plus, why are you so in love with Trey Burke? You mention him in every post, and you keep talking about how much better he is as a freshman than Gatens is as a senior. One, you're wrong, and two, Gatens has been a great Hawkeye, his career is almost over, and I don't think now is a good time to bad mouth him so much.

you like to see post show me one where i ever said he was a rebounding liability, you are the biggest liar on here

I'm not going to waste my time looking up quotes to prove what I say is true. You do it.

You know what you said Herby, or should I call you BeileinLover69?

why do i use Burke because he is close to Gesell in being the same to Michigan as Gesll will be to Iowa,
Burke was a Top 100 player at 90th
Gesell is TOP 100 player at 84th
Burke came in and started for a supposedly better team with more talent and has these #'s as a freshmen;
14.2 ppg
3.4 rpg
4.8 apg
2.7 topg
.9 spg

and people don't want to even consider Gesell being a starter for a team most feel has very little talent on it and compete for a starters position. get real and i already listed the stats that i expect from Gesell are to replace are those by Cartwright,
but i guess Iowa can't get a kid to come in and start at one of the biggest areas of need not even a Top 100 kid

That's nice Herby, I don't see why you have to keep bashing Gatens though. Go to the Michigan board if you want to love on Burke and bash Gatens. Just know we kicked your Wolverine ***** in BB and FB this year, so suck it hater.

i knew you wouldn't because YOU CAN'T.
never ever have i put a Iowa player down, i have been the biggest supporter and defender of Iowa players on here and any other sites,
You are the biggest liar and the biggest offender of putting Iowa players down by saying they can't do this or they can't do that, not to mention the team by saying they can't or won't win any games, but how did that turnout, they beat top 25 teams in back to back game in Indiana and Wisconsin
