My thoughts on what should happen to Penn State

Could you have posted this in the Big Ten section where the rest of this discussion is taking place?

14 year bowl ban? LOL not a chance that happens
I think a 2-3 year bowl ban, loss of some scholarships. I do think the TV revenue idea is feasible but probably a little much.

The sad part is I think the NCAA does nothing.

I was just asking myself what tiny rush's thoughts were on what should happen to Penn State. Wait, no I wasn't, gay pron... I was asking myself where i might find some gay pron.

Not the NCAA's job. Criminal matter. Civil suit matter. Maybe a token bowl ban,but I doubt it....simply does not fit the crime...not a situation that is covered in NCAA bylaws. If they start slapping penalties for criminal transgressions on campus, they are overreaching...let the authorities handle it.

Great ideas but the NCAA would never do that to one of their top programs. The NCAA will hide behind the legal argument and do nothing to PSU. Kind of makes the OSU situation seem like a joke compared to this but the NCAA will punish OSU more than PSU.

I love how people cannot piggy back off other ideas of acceptable punishments but instead have to come up with their own just to be different, no matter how outrageous. I am all for Penn State being punished but this has to be one of the worst ideas I have ever seen.

In order for this to heal Penn State needs to punish themselves.

This is the crux. What took place at Penn St was serious, and a criminal matter. It wasn't about management or enforcement of NCAA football rules. It just happened to involve an employee that was a coach. This involves criminal behavior over and above a sport.

If a Pedo was uncovered within the English dept, for example. You'd get rid of him and every administrator that enabled and covered up his crimes. But you wouldn't drop the English program and punish the kids studying that for the next 10 years.

The kids who chose Penn St to play football and get their education are getting cheated in this whole deal too. They put their trust in Paterno and the admin, they built college plan around it...and now their opportunities are tainted. They were wronged as well.

I have mixed feelings. I want to hang the POS people that allowed this to happen... but I feel bad for the bystanders. And make no mistake, their are a lot of bystanders harmed by this too. Unfortunately some lame-brains will boo these 19 yr old kids...as if they're the criminals.

This is exactly what I have been saying. But, I think they need to do it in agreement with the B1G and NCAA. These other agencies need to be able to skirt the reponsibility for punishment, so the self-imposed punishment needs to be significant.

Here is a minimum list.

1) Vacate all wins since 1998. That would put JoePa out of any signicant record list and leave PSU as not being able to recruit as having any B1G titles.

2) Have all B1G revenue sharing dollars go into a fund to address law suits to compensate victims. (Good idea from Deace.) But don't cap it at 14 years. Make it as many years as necessary to adhere to final legal obligations.

3) 3 year Bowl ban

4) Reduced on campus visits and scholarships.

5) Two year TV ban.

6) USC rule for all recruits and active players. They need to be able to play transfer and play immediately.

Are we really going to go thru this again?
Not having a functioning compliance department is an NCAA rule violation.
Hence it IS a NCAA issue.
The ncaa is OBLIGATED to ACT.
They already have started the process.
The evidence to date leaves ZERO doubt to a LOIC. PSU literally broke every compliance principle on the ncaa's books. Every single one of them.

Yes, law enforcement, DOE and others will also be involved but it will be for reasons specific to their function. ie: the DOE & the Clery Act, law enforcement to prosecute, etc.
Just as the NCAA will be involved to perform their function, which is to maintain a level playing field, among other things. PSU's non-conformance to its OWN compliance principles most certainly lead to a competitive advantage and THAT is what the NCAA will address.

You have to be trolling because there is no way a person in their right mind doesn't understand this by now.

The NCAA is going to have to beef up their staff to go into 120 Div 1 football and 360 Div 1 bb programs to check for 100% compliance to the rules for having a Compliance dept staffed up to the rules.

Sure, they can go in and find some rule transgressions at PSU,but there are no rules that cover this....sorry. They might slap penalties on PSU,never know, but it will open up many other schools to similar scrutiny.
Marquette needs to be next as they kept a sexual assault allegation in-house rather than take it to police, only to have one of the accused then have another assault incident. Time for Marquette to get the death penaly...who's next? The NCAA is going to have to hire 10,000 more investigators.
