Some strong Queen untertones here. Queen came out of the same scene as Sweet. Queen went on to become one of the most beloved and globally famous bands of all time. Sweet, however, may have been even more influential from a musical standpoint, especially on the 1980's American hair metal scene.
(Poison, Motley Crue, Cinderella, etc.). Another difference between Sweet and Queen. Sweet had the foresight to call it a day before the seventies ended, perhaps because they sensed that their music was so emblematic of it's time. Queen tried to push through the eighties with diminishing returns the whole way. They never completely recaptured their glory days, especially on record. Unlike U2, who's vision to be a grandoise band was similar to Queen's, Freddie and Brian could never quite reinvent themselves. Sweet, on the other hand, may have gotten more popular after they split up and fans of hair metal discovered their back catalog.

Every decade seems to have a band that comes along a couple years in, has a nice two or three album run, then disappears before the decade ends because it's music was so simblematic of it's time it wouldn't have worked anytime else.

1960's The Zombies.
1970's Sweet
1980's The Hooters
1990's The Gin Blossoms
2000's Audioslave
2010's ? Time will tell.

Very underrated, even for the genre, and well discussed on the previous pages of this thread. Lots of great songs.

In the spring of 1980, they lost their bassist Ronnie Caldwell while on tour. They obviously cancelled the rest of it. They were about a week from playing a show in Dubuque.

Redbone was a different group. The Vegas Brothers were part Yaqui. The Apaches feared the Yaqui.....

I forgot this was one of their songs. Made #4/5 in the Charts.....

Has a Rhythm and Blues feel to it.....

Come Dancing
The Kinks

They put a parking lot on a piece of land
When the supermarket used to stand
Before that they put up a bowling alley
On the site that used to be the local pally
That's where the big bands used to come and play
My sister went there on a Saturday
Come dancing
All her boyfriends used to come and call
Why not come dancing, it's only natural
Another Saturday, another date
She would be ready but she's always make him wait
In the hallway, in anticipation
He didn't know the night would end up in frustration
He'd end up blowing all his wages for the week
All for a cuddle and a peck on the cheek
Come dancing
That's how they did it when I was just a kid
And when they said come dancing
My sister always did
My sister should have come in a midnight
And my mom would always sit up and wait
It always ended up in a big row
When my sister used to get home late
Out of my window I can see them in the moonlight
Two silhouettes saying goodnight by the garden gate
The day they knocked down the pally
My sister stood and cried
The day they knocked down the pally
Part of my childhood died, just died
Now I'm grown up and playing in a band
And there's a car park where the pally used to stand
My sister's married and she lives on an estate
Her daughters go out, now it's her turn to wait
She knows they get away with things she never could
But if I asked her I wonder if she would
Come dancing
Come on sister, have yourself a ball
Don't be afraid to come dancing
It's only natural
Come dancing
Just like the pally on a Saturday
And all her friends will come dancing
Where the big bands used to play

I might have pointed this out before. "Can't You See" has an uncanny resemblance to another song "Oh Sweet Nuthin". Here is cover band doing a medley straight from one song into another. You have to pay attention to exactly where they transition. Not the greatest cover but interesting.

Good of place as any for this? Anyone attending Hinterland this weekend in St Charles? Can't wait - Saturdays honestly one of the best festival line ups I've seen put together. Hoping for good weather, but sounds like it's gonna be hella hot.

There was an outdoor Iowa festival decades ago that featured a Midwestern band called The Nazz. This would have been around 1971-1972. It featured Rick Nielsen and Tom Peterson. Do those names sound familiar? They ended up doing fairly well for themselves in the music business. Several years later they were the guitarist and bassist for a band named Cheap Trick. Not bad.
