Music Thread

I believe the day the music died was when Buddy Holly's plane crashed.... February made me shiver... bad news on the door step...

.......while Lenin read a book by marx....... Bolshevik Revolution 1917 Russia.

the rest...I'll have to google or guess.

Was being a smart aleck - It was one of those things college students would ruminate over while intoxicated.

Is this song really a palindrone?

I remember it being the "theme" song for CBS sports in the 70s.

Pretty much genius. Who says the Dutch smoked the best stuff?

Some guys have come clean on here by admitting they like disco and Wham, etc.

Here's my closet bro-crush and group I like. Ok, busted!

Breaking developments at Camp Northside. Evidently I tried to kill off the lead singer of Mott the Hoople in an earlier post. Of course I know it was Ian Curtis who was the lead singer of Joy Division. But it got me thinking. How many British bands have a member named Ian? So far I've come up with:

Mott the Hoople
Joy Division
Echo & the Bunnymen
King Crimson
Foreigner (half British, same Ian as King Crimson)
Judas Priest
Deep Purple/Whitesnake
Spinal Tap (band manager)

That's just off the top of my head. Feel free to add to the list. And I'll try to get the facts correct before I post. Still tragic to lose Ian Hunter, I mean Curtis. That band was ready to break through in a big way. New Order carried on nicely in his memory.

And according to Spinal Tap's Ian Faith, there's no sex and drugs for Ian. My guess is it only applies to that particular Ian, though.

I'll never forget seeing that movie for the first time Summer 1984. A group of us went to The Fieldhouse the next night for 50-cent cups, and lo and behold, they played that song.

Thus, it belongs in the "revived-by-movie-comes-to-cable" file...

New list. Videos that are more famous than the songs.

The Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" (Obvious reasons)
a-ha "Take On Me"
Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio"
Alice In Chains "Man In The Box"
Van Halen "Right Here Right Now"
Blind Melon "No Rain" Bet the bumblebee girl is a fox now.
Greg Kihn "Jeopardy" Don't leave your bride at the altar.
Foo Fighters "Big Me" Wicked spoof of those cheesy 90's mentos ads.
Devo "Whip It" Would be a little sensitive for certain groups today
Paul Simon "You Can Call Me Al" Chevy Chase was in an early version of Steely Dan.
The Cars "You Might Think" Ushered in a new age of digital effects.
Peter Gabriel "Sledgehammer" And the song is no slouch either.
The Bangles "Walk Like An Egyptian" Those doe eyes of Susanna Hoffs. Enough said.

On national TV no less

The audience seemed to be genuinely getting into it, but I am afraid the two singers with the tambourines are a distraction on TV. You can't really see them and the band at the same time, the camera has to keep panning back and forth. I think playing the song this fast takes away from the groove and the solo here is pretty indistinct. A bit of a missed opportunity.

The entire 1972 T. Rex rockumentary produced by Ringo Starr. - basically footage from 71 television appearances and the Wembley concert.
(digitally restored)

And according to Spinal Tap's Ian Faith, there's no sex and drugs for Ian. My guess is it only applies to that particular Ian, though.
Ian Gillan, according to legend, was known to do both under Jon Lord's keyboards during a guitar solo. When Ritchie was almost done soloing, he would signal his tech, who would signal Lord's, who would signal Ian to get back on stage.

Vandenberg open for KISS in Dubuque one year after the Plasmatics did. Singer Bert Heerink went around the side of the stage during a guitar solo, but didn't make it far enough. Everyone on the left side of the arena could clearly see him tossing his cookies.

AC/DC was at the Kohl Center years ago. Brian Johnson's ear piece malfunctioned during the final guitar break in "Back in Black". He slid over to the side of the stage as incognito as he could, a tech replaced his earpiece, and he slid back over to the Mike just in time to sing the last chorus while acting like it was no big deal the whole time.

I'm sure many of you have similar concert stories to these. I just wanted to share a couple.

UPDATE:. This thread hasn't moved in almost 24 hours. How appropriate that a music thread has stopped at reply # 666.
