MSUM's Anthony Tucker shows a knack for the basket

I didn't say he was a solid contributor THIS YEAR. But that isn't the argument, the argument was past players who transferred during the lickliter/alford years never were solid contributors in a major conference, EVER.

With that said because you clearly didn't read any of the previous posts to know what the conversation was about. How many past Alford or Lickliter players would still be around to be a solid contributor now?

You are completely missing the point.

I really don't think he would be a solid contributor on this team. MAYBE. He was on a horrible USC team and had a great start to last season (against bad teams) and then fell off. And to be honest, Basabe wasn't that great for most of last year. Solid contributor wouldn't be really what I would call him. Inconsistent contributor more likely.

No one knows why he isn't playing much NOW. But he was a big contributor when he got there. Spanks stats imply that he transferred and didn't do squat, well that isn't true.

Maybe he was injuried in the offseason and they are bringing him back slowly, who knows.

He was hurt last year and missed the rest of the season. But he was starting at points this year, can't stay in the starting lineup though.
Been doing a recent job on the boards, though.

I guess it all depends on how you classify a solid contributor.

I think he's been good for USC if that's the question.
The only transfer to make an impact at a major school is Tyler Smith. I think that's fairly undebatable.

Spank, he transferred so he didn't play in the '10-11 season but when he returned to the court in '11-'12 last season according to ESPN he averaged 29.2 mins and 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

That is a decent contributor.

You would have considered Melshan Basabe a big contributor last season correct?

Well Mel had 20.1 mins, 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds per game last season.

No, I thought Mel had a pretty average last season. One that I predicted he would have even before the season started last fall/winter.
He's rebounded a little bit this season, but there were 5 other players who were bigger contributors than Mel last year.

Let's not forget, Fuller played on a USC team that went 6-26 on the year. While Iowa wasn't an amazing team, they at least had a winning record (with a harder SOS) and went to the NIT.

Do you know where Tyler Smith is now? I mean hopefully not jail. He had real talent, I don't understand why he couldn't keep his nose clean.

It just blows me away a player who is that good can do enough stupid crap to be kicked off a team by Bruce Pearl.

When did USC get hit with their restrictions? That might be why he ended up at USC and why he played as much as he did in the past.

He was playing overseas last I knew.

I agree, but that just tells us that lickliters recruiting was horrible. Which obviously we all knew, just further proof.

Don't get me wrong, my early point was to prove he was good or I though he could play on this Iowa game. Just merely that I thought his stats proved he was solid contributor atleast for the time he played in '11-'12, regardless of how good his team was. USC is still in a major conference.

I don't know...I think he would have a very good role on a team like ours. I think he could be a solid 6 or 7 man for us. I wouldn't trade anyone for him but his rebounding and offense (what he had at iowa and last yr) would have made a solid back up for white. I think he could be a solid 12 to 15 min guy to spell white at the 4.

Literally, yes. I suppose. Maybe. Hell, I'm not sure.

True.
But answer me this... is it more impressive to transfer and play for a bottom-feeding Big Six conf team (see: USC, Northwestern, Nebraska, DePaul, et al) or transfer to high mid-major like Butler, VCU, Creighton, etc.. Major conferences don't nearly mean as much in basketball as they do in football. I get what you are saying, but I don't think it's that important to play a Big Six school, esp if it's one of the worst ones and is continually worse than a lot of mid-major teams.

Yeah, which is why I threw the "maybe" in there. I guess it really depends on your definition of "contributor". I mean, I think he would get minutes like he is getting there right now. Minutes like McCabe, maybe? Minutes that would go down once conference games start.

That USC team was the worst team in Pac 10/12 history. And thats no hyperbole.

Outside of Arizona, they don't have much. Then again Oregon did beat Iowa in the NIT last season. But that really isn't anything to put on a conference as keeping it in the conversation as a major conference.

I think the parity between teams in different levels is getting smaller and smaller each year. So I think it all depends on the team that they go to and their opponents.

USC sucked really bad, I know so he wasn't the best example but as I said you have to break down a particular players situation at the school of their choosing to really understand which move is more impressive.

Maybe I'm remembering him wrong but I think he is a more skilled version of mccabe. I would guess he would play more then him. He also has more offensive skills than basabe but can't run the floor or block shots like mel.

Josh isn't nearly the shooter Tucker is.

What are you basing it on when you say Tucker is a great shooter? Is it based upon anything that as happened in a game during an official season? There are plenty of guys that are great when they are scrimmaging. I wouldn't say he is great at anything until I see it in a game. Have we seen it in a game from him?
