Has anyone ever stayed at the Steve Alford Inn in New Castle? How did you feel the next day?
I really thought you were kidding.....
Dear Lord.....

Devilish, delightful and delectable thought....we meet and beat SA in the NCAAs this year by oh, say, 45....and he gets let go immediately thereafter.
That, ladies and gentlemen, should suffice for life-long Hawkeye atonement.
So why is he this or a "scumbag" as other posters have said? Because he wasn't a good coach at Iowa and took a job at NM?
Seems a bit harsh to me. I don't seem to remember him being in anyone's face with his religion. Why was he a hypocrite again? Because there was a rumor he had an affair? That was a only a rumor so why is anyone judging?
He wasn't a great coach and said a few irritating things about Iowa after he left but gee-whiz this hatred is a little over the top.

Not sure if it's been discussed on HN or not, but if you want another reason to laugh at Alford, watch the ESPN 30 for 30 on Reggie Miller.
For the 1987 draft, a lot of folks were convinced that the Pacers were going to select Alford in round 1. So much so that they had a camera crew at the Alford house for the pick selection. The facial expressions and gestures from Stevie and Tonya are priceless when the Miller selection is announced.

He claimed Alraud orchestrated that meeting, you claim it's not true. Unless you have some form of proof that Alfruad didn't orchestrate that meeting, I'll believe DB. Even if he doesn't have proof. Alfraud has made enough mistakes involving PP that leads me to believe it's not a stretch that he did indeed orchestrate that meeting.DB insists that it is a fact that SA orchestrated that meeting, but the report never claims that...and yet DB cites the report as indicting SA for doing that....report never claims that SA orchestrated that meeting, only citing the pastor guy. The report is very specific in where SA screwed up, and that is all fair game....and yes, SA apologized....but DB makes claims that are not true....both are douchebags.
I always read this and just shake my head. It was pretty widely known, at least I thought it was, that players hated Lick. A decent person doesnt treat Anthony Tucker the way Lick did.
He screwed up, everybody knows that but either boot him off the team or treat him as a member of the team if you decide to keep him. The BS silent treatment that Tucker got for weeks from Lickliter is the most childish, immature thing I have ever heard of a coach doing.
No wonder players were leaving as fast as possible.

You trolling or do you have your head buried in the sand? On camera Alford looks like the all american boy, off camera he is a piece of dog crap. We were sold he was going to take the Iowa program to the next level, he looked and played the part he was an up and coming coach, what we got is someone who just LOOKED like he could coach who brought his dad along hoping dad could make him look good. It wasn't until he got rid of dad and hired Neal did he suddenly ACT like he knew what he was doing. Never mind all the rest of the crappy things he did while he was here off the court.
